I think Kjungs NYC is solid, the orange one. Ive had quite a few solid NYC's and all metros are solid bodies

Thanx bluesy. They do kinda suck. LOL. Im gonna get a new camera. They are so cheap now!

Anyways, gives u an idea of my two. Ive gotta say Im very happy with both. Guess Im a PJ guy after all. I can cover any gig or tune with either bass. Im only thinking the WL5 cause Im completely fickle. LOL. Plus, I want another blue bass.

I imagine that seeing as how your gigs range ALL musical styles from what I can tell the PJ option truly IS a 'swiss-army bass'. Adding a WL5 falls under the 'why the hell NOT?' category!

Hi

U got it, El mon. Christian gig twice a week, metal band here and there, 80's pop tribute the rest of the time plus sub work occasionally. Actually the pj4 has done so many shows Im already wearing out the first few frets. Pretty crazy. Kevin at the shop handpicked out that bass for me when they first introduced the hybrid. I wanted something with a P pickup and thought it would make sense. Well, Im so happy I grabbed it. 8.5lbs, killer penetrating pj tone. The p pickup kills solo'd. I truly love that bass and it looks total rock and roll

LPB with tort? Still thinking a blk pickguard. LOL even thought RS hates it too

Further proof that Roger is gearing his designs towards the working bassist. The local guy who snagged my old ash/maple PJ5 that I recently moved quickly snagged a full-time gig with a 150 gigs/year+ country band in Dallas after filling in for ONE NIGHT. Apparently the band was shocked at how great he sounded and how his tone blended with the rest of the band!!!! That was when my bass was in the 'borrowing to check it out' period, and he immediately wrote me a check when he got back!!

As is my older blonde NYC JJ5 and let me tell you, the tone on that bad boy is really something! Then again, so is my chambered NYC... :)

I know Vic. Im torn. Kevin and I talked about it on the fone the other day for half an hour. Well we talked about girls and watches, too. LOL

I really love how my metros sound. Everyone of them Ive owned. Maybe I just want a bass that weighs between 8 and 9lbs? Maybe its not a solid vs chambered thing at all. The lighter ones feel great on ur shoulder but always give u that feeling that they are toys. I know, Im crzy. LOL

What the hell do I know anyways? Ive only owned 26 of these things. Oh well. I need therapy

Thanx P bass. Recording some Christian rock tracks with it the last few weeks. Cant believe how good they are coming out. Practically recording straight into protools. I have my Demeter Compulator and on certain tracks Ive used a Vt Bass to get a Flip top old type tone. Thats it. Awesome bass

Not at all!!

There are very definite tonal changes with weight and chambering. Pick what fits you best!

My chambered NYC is 8.3 pounds, which is a really great weight. Definitely as light as I'd really want to go on a J bass. Maybe 8 pounds min, but I just seem to have the best results generally between 8 1/2 to 9 pounds (or so :)). I've played some of the uber light J's and I just feel like something I'm looking for isn't quite there. I can't really quantify it, as I don't have one to A/B, but it's true for me, at least. For reference, my older solid NYC is only 8.6 pounds, which interestingly, I think is identical to Ken's solid NYC's weight. :)

I don't know when I'm gonna' get around to it, but at some point, I'll have identical pickups in my older NYC solidbody and my newer chambered topped NYC. Currently it's got Nordstrand NJ5S's in it, as I think those have a bit better mid profile than the stock HC's for my prefs (noted after playing the PJ, which has one in it.) At that point, I'm going to try and compare and see if I can attribute something specific about the chambered topped version vs the solid ash. Dunno how useful that'll be for most folks, but I wanna' know. :)

Yea, its prolly something that cant be defined. 8.25 to 8.5 is cool with me. My pj5 is about 9lbs. Its an ok weight but I so wish it was a bit lighter. Thats why Im seriously considering the WL5. Not to mention I just plain out want one!!! Love ordering new gear. Im a junkie for sure. Wish we lived near by, Vic. Be cool to compare and contrast

Ive owned pretty much all the combos, Bernie. I like the ash/maple because to my ears I can get real close to what you get from your bass rolling off tone. I also believe that you cant get the ash/maple sizzle and snap from alder/morado. I just feel the ash body is key. Others feel different but I stick to my guns on this one!! Also, I owned an ash/morado NYC 4 that freakin killed! I prolly did 700 shows with that thing. Loved it. Sold it to fund an ordered bass. That's the wood combo Im considering if I order the WL5
