Club Sadowsky!!!

Makes sense that the harder wood would behave more like maple. Although, I have owned a few different Pau Ferro Fenders and a few other even nicer basses with that FB, and I never got much of a maple-like vibe from them. The Pau Ferro certainly has more the feel of "traditional" rosewood.

Again, I expect to be very excited about this bass. I'm not even gonna worry about it.

Also, I'll take this public forum opportunity to say the the guys at Bass San Diego were EXCELLENT to work with. FWIW, RS, you should be confident in having your line in their store.

It has been difficult to get for quite a while. If I am not mistaken, I believe the D-35 three-piece back was a result of an effort to use up some Brazilian RW that wasn't wide enough for D-28 back blanks. I think Brazilian hasn't been standard on the 28s for forty years or so.

OK. All this Brazilian RW discussion has me too excited not to share. As I said, I actually bought two Sadowskys in the last couple of days. The PJ5 is really a straight swap out for a Dingwall Super J5 that I recently have been trying. It is really my "backup" and hopefully will work out for the few rock/pop gigs I do in P/W teams.

This is the bass I am truly freaking out waitng for it to arrive. These are my first love in Sadowsky, and as much as the Sadowsky "vintage" vibe is amazing, this is always what I have REALLY wanted. Based on as much reading, research and listening as I have been able to do, I think this has the best chance to be the "Right Sadowsky" for me. Thanks ElMon! :) My plan is to try this bass to see if it works for me in all of the "non-rock" settings that I play. If so, the Dingwall, which is amazing on its own, will go to finanace this. If the Dinger prevails, someone will get a chance to buy this. I hope it works out. NOTHING plays like a Sadowsky. If I can dial in the tone I have in my head, I will be a peace (for a while, anyway :) )

And according to my calculator that puppy comes in at just about 7.8 lb !!!
That's an extraordinary pc of rw. as well. I bet it'll be SO sweet !

I'm actually a bit concerned about the weight. I had a Tobias a long time ago that was really, REALLY light, and I actually didn't like it that light. Sure, you want the comfort, but it still has to feel like you are wearing a bass!

My Dingwall is just barely 8 pounds, and it's fine these days. Probably every year the minimum weight is likely to go down!

I thought as a tribute to Walter's bass playing & a last tribute to my P-Bass played thru a Sadowsky outboard pre before I get my build, I would post this "overdub" of my own playing over the CD music w/ it's bass removed. A friend was kind enough to host it for me here. This is my favourite song on the "Everything Must Go" CD called "Lunch With Gina".

An NYC Modern 5 is definitely on my dream list for modern playing styles.

I filled in for a band last night (80's rock/metal) doing a large private party (it was a birthday for 4 lawyers that all turned 40 and had a Miami Vice themed/80's party). Anyway, it was in a medium size upscale club. It was also my first gig with the Metro Will Lee. It was great. I can tell you that a few songs in, the thought of playing that Fender Precision neck on my other bass was not appealing at all. Plus, the tonal flexibility of the Will Lee is just great. Useable boost, the VTC (which I love in my other band but didn't really use last night), and the mid boost really shined on a few songs where I needed the bass to cut through a bit more aggresively.
