Thanks, Got it at NJ guitar n bass. Some one played it and left the prce tag off. I never pick up a bass over 1200.00 dolars, so when I played it had no idea how much it was.
BUT WOW I had to have it.

How would you say the character of the bass changed going from the Sadowsky soaps to the bog splits?

The Big Splits are more aggressive in a vintage sort of way while still maintaining warmth. The soaps had more of that Ken Smith/modern sound. I don't notice as much volume drop in with both pickups on full.

What I'd like to see is a site where the various pup/model combos are listed with soundfiles, so I could listen to 'em all and make my decision based on essentially doing a virtual A/B that way. I know it's not the same as sitting down chez Roger and putting them all through their paces, but I'm a good ten-hour drive from Brooklyn. And my order target date is actually starting to hove into distant view, so I'm thinking (okay, daydreaming) about it more.

Major test #3 for the M5-24 is happening tonight. Hopefully, I'll be able to post some sound clips when I get home.

I lead a trio that backs a Poetry Slam, and I decided that tonight, I get to see how this bass sounds in this context. It's piano, bass, and drums playing improvised music behind poets. Pretty different context from the previous two kinds of gigs, but I think with how the bass slots in, it'll be great. I just need to find the batteries for my recorder (Edirol R09HR).

Sadowsky GAS related comments....
I got a price quote on a fretless. We'll see how nice the tax man is to me this year. It's now a savings goal to get at least half of the cost saved up before placing a deposit.

The specs that I'm reasonably certain on:
5 string
ebony fingerboard unlined with side dots (so it'll be just like my DB appearance wise)
alder body
Either V5-24 or V5
HC Jazz Pickups
Standard finish (some type of burst)
No exotic/fancy top

I don't own a fretless anymore, and that is the next kind of bass I want/need. My DB is fine, I have a few nice fretted electrics, so it's time to save up for a nice fretless.

Well, I'm back in the club...

I had sold my 5-24 but recently bought a RV-5 and have been enjoying it mucho! I've used it for a couple of Sundays now and it fits in well. The sub gig I was supposed to do this afternoon got cancelled for expected rain (outdoor gig) - bright sun, just a few clouds and mid 60's today. Oh well...

Anyway, pic from the ad - I'll be taking my own later on.

Yep, that discoloration by the control plate is a reflection of a tree.

+1 Same here. I had shifted to playing 5-strings probably 95% of the time, but over the last couple of years, I have been playing more and more 4-string. The vibe/feel is just different enough that it has me reaching for the 4-strings more often when I don't need a low B. Adding a Hipshot Xtender makes them even more versatile.
