My VM2 
I was looking through the member list and couldn't spot a single VM2! Does no one like these and I'm just weird or are you guys just calling it a VM4? Either way a I freaking love the way this thing plays, great bass.

The VS is great, both are new territory for me as it's the first jazz and split coil I have owned, having had massive humbuckers before.
Shape wise, great balance, neck on the DK wins, boy is it fast, it's thinner than a normal jazz, but the VS is no slouch. Mine was only soft aged soninamngetting at the finish with some 0000 steel wool and it's making it better as well as playing it lots.
Sound wise, I think the straight up balls out tone is great. With the DK I have tended to use a slight bridge preference but both pick ups and a blend of my Le Bass pre amp with the Cali76G, with the VS I only use the Cali as I feel it does not need anything else and have it wide open tone wise.
Rolling the tone all the way off I prefer the DK neck solo'd and rolled off, it seems a little more subsonic to my ears.
I have not had it in earnest with the band yet due to school holidays etc. But I can tell it will sit just right in the mix and it is a joy to play.
The Sandberg pups are just right for what I want.
I need to do a straight head to head in a band mix and give you further info.

@DJ'65 how have you found going back to the VS and comparing it to a VM?
Essentially as we know we both like the Forty Eight and the most common pup config on it is a VM, so cool shape aside it should sound pretty similar.
Of note I have heard some are MM so anyone chipping in on the MM vs VM vs VS debate would be gratefully received.

At the moment I'm mainly playing at home and rehearsing with a blues rock band every few weeks. I have been using this whatever rig was at the rehearsal space so at the minute it's more about what and how I play rather than the finer details of my sound. None of my basses sound bad by any stretch of the imagination but I haven't had chance to play them back to back at gig volume. So in all honestly I cannot answer the question. Again I'm finding my feet with bass ( most of my gear is guitar related) and im hoping that this band will be gigging within 2 months and then I can hopefully get a better feel for them all.

Regarding the Forty Eight, I went to PMT in Brum a couple of weeks ago and had quick play on a nice soft aged black and cream one. As the shop was busy I didn't play loud and so couldn't get a feel for the sound. However, it felt more awkward to me, seated at least and I didn't get chance to play it on a strap. At this point it kind of put me off and I will hold off until I have had more time with one, on a strap and standing.

Thank you. I haven't compared them side by side yet but will do that so I can tell you the difference (if any). The forty eight has the 'standard' pickup configuration.

Reason being for me apart from curiosity I I have a VS4, and the MarloweDK, I love the Forty Eight shape, but I am not sure if I need/want the sound of a "VM" configuration and may just stay happy with what I have
