US: West Colorado Club

Dan touched many of our hearts through much more than just cool gear. He ran his shop as a bass lounge with a gear problem, and I spent many an hour just hanging out and shooting the breeze with Dan and the people I met at Premier... Gear, life, the hot women at the salon next door... I met many cool people at Premier, and invite anyone to stay in touch.

I was fortunate to see him with Funkeyebk just over a week ago, and despite being in tough shape, he was still joking and being Dan... Offering us beers and saying "I should be a good host!"

I did message with his brother Michael a little bit earlier, and he said they'd have more info on a memorial service soon, and something would probably be set up for a week or two from now.

At the end of an emotional day, I'm simply exhausted and that's all I've got. Dan treated me like family, and I will miss him very much.

It's true, Dan did treat everyone like family. I'll never forget the first time I walked into the store. It was a few weeks after the grand opening. Dan saw me and his face lit up, and he started talking about times we had hung out years before, etc. I'm embarrassed to say it, but I had totally forgotten. Of course, our friendship was forged anew.

My thoughts and prayers are with Dan and with his family. Dan always took the time to talk to me, to show me his projects, and to make me feel at home in his shop. It is very sad that this world has had to let go of such a wonderful kindred spirit to us all. -Wes Heilman

Dan was a wonderful human being and we are all very fortunate to have known him. I only wish we could have had more time.

My heart goes out to his family and friends and I hope their pain and loss soon turns to bittersweet memories of the time they had with Dan.

You will be sorely missed, may you rest in peace Dan.

This sums it up perfectly.

Even if you only met Dan once for 5 minutes, he would leave an impression on you. He was more genuine and kind than anyone I've ever known, and I've never seen anyone take the bad news cancer brings with more strength and courage than Dan did. He was simply amazing.

I was fortunate enough to see him a couple of weeks ago and he was still, by and large, Dan. We chatted for several hours about all sorts of things (he still very much wanted to talk about bases) and I ended up sending him some (new to him) music from YouTube which he said he really enjoyed about a week later. When I inquired about visiting again a few days ago, I guess he was no longer seeing visitors as his condition had deteriorated...

If there is anything to take solace in perhaps it's that the deterioration he experienced before his passing was not excessively long. I think that's something we all could hope for, for our sake and that of our loved ones.

Welcome to Colorado! Tomorrow, expect a low of -32 to warm up to 101 and a chance of a hurricane mixed with rain/snow/drought conditions. The tide will be high/low and flooding to no flooding is expected. A tornado is possible and a 50/50 chance of a dust storm.

Colorado Talkbass friends! My 11-piece funk band is looking for a keyboard sub for a "foot in the door" gig on May 9th @ 5pm, at a casino in Windsor. (It's more about the connection with the booking agency than the casino). Pay is $125 for a 3-hour deal. Not as much $$ as we'd like, but it's a fun hang and could lead to more work for both the band and the sub!

We have 5 horns, are all gigging pros, and play stuff like Tower of Power, Steely Dan, Earth Wind and Fire, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, etc etc.

Message me if you know anyone who might be interested!

My next show is quickly approaching! On Friday, March 14, 2014, I will
perform at Boulder's Shine Restaurant and Gathering Place. Shine is
located just off the Pearl Street Mall at 2027 13th Street;
http://www.shineboulder.com/. The venue holds about 100. Tickets are $10
at the door only. Music begins at 7:30pm. I spoke with a woman last
night who recently played Shine. "Oh you'll love it Ken, the sound
system is awesome." That's what we want to hear!

I am thrilled to be joined by Lafayette bassist Woody Green. And there
is even a rumor going around that Coupe Studio Producer John McVey may
show up for a few songs. It's going to be a good night.
