Coolest jazz basses ever?

My lefty Zon Sonus 519...

Link Removed

For all intents and purposes, it's a 35" scale 5-string jazz bass on steroids.

:D

oh come on. Super awesome bass, but shouldn't there be more of a line of demarcation of what is and isn't a Jazz Bass?
It has Jazz style pickups, but where is the control plate? And the body isn't Jazz style really. But then quite a lot of Laklands are Jazz style and they certainly take liberties with the body shape.
Just saying is all, I would not kick that bass out of bed for not being a Jazz.

Ha! Thanks for the kind words... :D

I certainly don't think a bass needs a control plate to be a "jazz bass"... there are tons of j-basses out there that are rear routed.

To me, 90% of what makes a jazz bass a jazz bass is pickups and pickup location. My Zon has jazz-style pickups and they are in the typical 60's jazz bass pickup locations. In a blind taste test, I doubt you could tell a difference between it and another active jazz bass that had the stereotypical look of a Fender.

Also, the Sonus body style is actually quite closer to a jazz bass than it might appear at first glance... the upper horn is the same length and close to the same shape, and other than the lower horn, the rest of the body is a similar size as well.

Anyway, I realize that I'm making a bit of a stretch and my Sonus is on the very outer limits of "Jazz bass territory" but I stick by what I said.

yeah steampunk needs to go away and die. It's pretty much just pretentiousness for the sake of being pretentious.
And we thought we were embarassed for the 80's? I cant wait until today generation has kids. "daddy why are you wearing a top hat and goggles in this picture? Were you going to the opera underwater?"
"Yeah son, that was a silly trend called steampunk back in the 2000s. We all wore really ugly boots and made regrettable tattoo choices."
"Oh that explains the scar tissue on your upper arm dad!"
"Anything was better than that steampowered owl tattoo."

I'm pretty sure my new hot rodded Geddy is one of the coolest looking. Custom persimmon finish, matching headstock, copper pearloid pick guard, ivory pick up covers on DiMarzios. Automatically gives the player a perfect bass face, as my kid is demonstrating.
