I love the looks of my '73!

What a beauty!!!
what neck are you using on the bass? I've always wanted a P neck with blocks and binding!

Hey thanks man!

I found the neck on ebay for like fifty bucks - it says "C-Series CSB-1" on the headstock, which I tracked down to be a Japanese-made Conn from 1980 or '81. I was just searching until I found a Fender-compatible bound/blocked neck with a rosewood board for $100 or less. I figure it had to be pretty old, because the headstock shape is a shameless copy of the Fender hook. It came with the tuners, and has wonderfully thin fret wire. Being in my mid 30s and having played only instruments made in the 90's or newer - meaning all "jumbo" frets - the lighter frets have been a joy to play.

That black one is gorgeous. Add a bridge cover and I might have to come steal that from you

Thanks! You know, I started using the PUP cover a few years back, because I wanted to "be different".....the bridge cover (to me) is more of a hassle when changing strings (which I do quite often). I have always wanted a quick and easy way to use the bridge cover (who knows? magnets? :smug: ) but haven't found a way to do it yet....

I actually LOVE that Antigua - MIM but the QC is great! I put it on par with the MIA 62RI and the MIA 57RI....it really is one nice bass!

I've been trying to find a picture, and maybe it's already been posted but I remember a stealth fretless P a fellow TBer had a couple years back. IMO, it's the best looking bass, let alone P, I've ever seen.

If I ever find it again, I'll be sure to post the pic here.

I've got the bridge cover on my P clone, and I was thinking maybe threaded inserts and pan-head machine screws would work nicely. Haven't found inserts the right size yet though, and I don't think I'll be changing strings anytime soon on that bass.

Nice bass, a rare Fender P for sure. How do you like its tone? I've seen varying opinions on how they sound. No complaints about build or finish.

Thanks. Yeah it is kinda rare I guess. You're right about the build, it's top drawer. It's very light, yet feels really substantial, solid. And the CAR absolutely gleams.

Only just got it a few days ago, still on the honeymoon. Even so, this is one fine Fender P bass. Waited many years for one of these and I think I got lucky with this one.

Soundwise, I'm still messing around with different string sets. It's destined for flats for sure, tho. I put TI's on it for now, it sounds very good. The pickup is strong, tone control has excellent range and linear taper. The wood resonates nicely.

I'd like a bit more heft from the E string, the pickup has a raised pole at the A string that is causing a slight imbalance between strings. Not a big deal, might try some heavier strings. Hope this answers your Q.
