+1 That's a great list! I think I'm gonna learn all of your list (I know a good chunk it already)... just for the experience. Shoot, I'm gonna save this whole thread and see about learnin most all of it :) lots of good stuff!

Nice set list. Looks alot like the ones I put together. Nice mix of old and new. Nelly always pax the floor.
I did wince at the Journey and Kansas tunes though. I used to be such a fan of both bands but I just can't listen to them anymore, maybe it's just me.

Funny you mention that, we only do like 15 seconds of each song, more as a joke than anything else before we go into something else, but people absolutely freak out when we play Separate Ways, it's pretty funny.

right now, im just freelancing. So I'll play any room from a dance club, wedding, ship, etc. My next gig is goig to be at a club on the beach. Smaller but still gonna pay me decent.

Makes good sense to me. Woman like to dance, dance bands bring in woman, men tend to go to clubs where woman are, so they can mack. This all combines to a packed house and usually good paying gig.

Im thinkin the same thing. Loads of great tunes on everyones list. Thats part of the reason I asked people to post their lists. I wanted get an idea of what some standards are in certain genres, as well get enough ideas to compile at least 2 song lists of my own.

Yeah livin' on a prayer is a great song. It's definitely one of the crowd favorites. To be honest we don't really cover the vocal parts too well. We play it down a half step, but our singer still has to go into falsetto to hit parts of the chorus. He's classically trained so he doesn't like to bear down and belt out the notes he has to stretch for. My range is a little higher than his so I can belt out the chorus without going into falsetto, but it kills me. When the song modulates up I don't even bother trying. I personally like singing the harmony on the prechorus. It just feels good singing in that range. It's not a big deal though since the crowd trying to sing along is loud enough to cover our shortcomings.

How do you guys end the song? On the recording it fades out. We still haven't come up with a good way to end it.

Thewanderer24, that's a cool list. Except for that Four Non Blondes song, which always tested my reflexes when it came on the radio (back when I used to listen to the radio). That song and Starship's "We Built This City" would be on permanent repeat in my own private Hell.

lol... I actually like that 4 non blondes song, though "We built this city" makes my skin crawl.

I am very lucky to have a very versatile singer. She really has the range to do the Janis stuff well and the nice soft female "real" singing tunes. She does a decent job on the zep, and does a seriously badass JB that blows everyone away. Sometime soon, we will be adding some Stevie Wonder tunes, and more funk type stuff to keep me entertained...

What more does a bassplayer need??

Haha, I think the funniest thing is that the rest of the guys in the band are over 50 years old. I'm 24, but I got the gig because I knew how to play a bunch of Allman Brothers Band songs. We're auditioning for a second female vocalist right now, and the lady trying out tonight is 28, but I really don't mind being in a band with people who are around the same age as my parents.

Yeah, that's a nice vocal, huh? Didn't realise it was Paul Carrack. Anyhow, the chords are just Bb and C. I found the tune on a compilation whose title escapes me at the moment. I did a search on allmusic.com for it, though.

Well, I am a child of the fifties (man, that sounds old!) and I know who Evanescence, Finch, Puddle of Mudd,12 Stones, etc are and I love it all. Just cause I got old doesn't mean good music has stopped being made.
Lord knows I don't wear the same close I did 30 years ago, so why should I keep playing the same old songs over and over and over again.
Share your youth with the oldsters.

Most bands dont. Even when we did it the vocals were'nt as good as they should've been. We'd play it in E. Whoever could sing the highs and falsetto stuff would do so, and those who couldnt would sing them in a voice that was in key. It made it interesting because everyone sang in their vocal range and were all still in key. So the harmonization was still there. (now that I think about it. I should really get a pitch shifter or whatever it called that can tune the vocals up or down)

Its kind of hard to explain, but I'll give it my best shot.

You know how it keeps reapeating the chorus near the end, well when he's singing whoa living on a prayer, theres a part where the Hugh Mcdonald does a triplette thing. Wed play that part twice and end on the Triplette part when he's singing "prayer" Worked out good for us, was a nice tight and good spot to end it in our eyes.

Reminds me of a set we used to do, segued together, non-stop. Mid 80's.

This set ran 35-45 mins. Our guitar player was just awesome, every time. He never wanted to stop.
He was not into 3 minute top 40 songs. But I got a workout for sure.

There comes a time in your life, when you become an adult, that the age of your friends becomes somewhat moot. One makes friends of all ages based on who they are and what they stand for, and if they are 2 years younger that your mom and dad, introduce them.

I'm not surprised you don't mind, it's always fun to play with different people and learn new stuff, new or used.

I think that's great, and I think it is a credit to you to be good enough to play anything. !
