Covers you refuse to play now or ever again

Rock n Roll All Nite and Freebird come to mind. Rock n Roll is just too much of a cliche and I've yet to hear anyone other than KISS make it sound good. Freebird is one of those songs that causes me to involuntarily grab the nearest heavy object and hurl at the head of whoever just yelled it. It's just a reflex that I can't help.

"MORE COWBELL!" causes me to do the same thing.

Here's the list so far. Man, Mustang Sally is getting no love in this thread.

Keep em coming.

Keep Low :bassist:

Here's the funny thing:

If a decent cover band were to make this their setlist.........they'd have bar patrons on the dance floor all night, begging for more.

You all know it, you just don't want to admit it!

:hiding:

I never looked at it that way but after a second look, I'm afraid to say that you're probably correct. Looks like there are quite a few of us that would not be playing in that band.

Refuse?

Well, if the money is there, i'll play anything. THAT SAID... If I have my choice?...

Cocaine (and yes, I played this in bands back in the day when folks did lines off of their amp-tops...)
Sweet Home Alabama (or *anything* by Skynard)
Mustang Sally
Jumpin' Jack Flash
China Grove...

Hell, ANYTHING that is classic "Rock" is offa my preferred list...

But like I said: I'm not to proud to be a whore, if it comes to it...

My lead singer refuses to do Mustang Sally so I've never had to worry about it. Back when I was playing guitar, I tried explaining to him that I felt about Freebird the way he felt about Mustang Sally. Somehow we always wound up playing it. Glad I play bass now (again, our bass player left and it was easier to find a new guitarist) because our new guitarist "doesn't know" Freebird ;) Well, if he knows it, he does a better job of hiding it than I did I guess.

Otherwise, I really don't mind playing anything even if I hate it. As long as the crowd is enjoying it, I don't really care. As long as I don't have to play lead on Freebird anymore.

YYZ, hands down. It's probably the most egostastic set-killer known to man.

And yes, I've been in bands that tried to pull it off and even play it in public. Surest way to clear the dance floor and have an army scruffy 19 year old geek tell you that "you played the main fill wrong, man".

No boring cover songs...just boring cover bands.
One of my all time favorite bands (NRBQ) can take any song and kill with it. Heard them do 'This Guy's in Love With You' by Herb Alpert one night and they slayed the whole room.
Use your imagination, and make the song your own.

NRBQ. The greatest!

Big fanboy here. We used to open for them a lot.

Covers from Bruce Chanell to Billy Stewart to Sun Ra to every genre you can think of in Pop/Rock/Jazz(no metal).

You never knew what they would pull from "The Magic Box"'.

I miss those guys.Especially with Big Al.:hyper::hyper:

I play anything with a smile. That's what being a pro is all about. However, I am screaming inside everytime I have to play:

Mustang Sally
3 Steps
Old Time R&R
Long Way to the Top
Living After Midnight
You Got Another Thing Coming
R&R All Night
Sweet Home
Creedence
Day Tripper
Hard Days Night

too many to list.

We have a word for that. It's called being a whore. I should know - I'm one myself. :hyper:
