For those of you who've played in bands where you had a female lead up front, how about these? And, yes I've played them before many times.

Goodbye to you
Walk Like An Egyptian
I love Rock N Roll (ARGHHHHH.... I HATE THAT ONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Mustang Sally is STILL getting no love in this thread. It may well turn out to be the most hated of all.

Keep em coming.

Keep Low

I thought I'd see what cover tunes everybody either hates and will never play, or played before and you swear you will NEVER play again.

I have learned to avoid "never again", because things change with time. But, I made that promise once with "House of the Rising Sun". The song is actually quite OK, but the band I was it at the time abused it badly...

And then at a small gig, it suddenly came up, live, unplanned. I hadn't playd it for at least a couple of years, but I did my best and had a good time doing it. If I ever will play it again? I doubt it...

regards, Henning

I actually don't mind "Mustang Sally". Of course, I tend to play it like "Born Under A Bad Sign", but that's just me.

I guess I'm surprised that "Mustang Sally" is so universally hated. Then again, I haven't really listened to the original bass line, so I may not be doing anything like the original line. Can I ask why you guys hate it so much?

Believe me, I'm not being critical. In fact, I'm starting to think that the reason I don't mind that song and everyone else does is because I don't have the chops to play harder stuff. I should probably go request a second number in the mediocre bassist club, just to be sure it's official ...

Respectfully - this is why I ab-whore the tune.

This any many of the kitchen staple tunes, folks forget they perfected it before releasing it.

I'd play it again in a second.. as long as the folks don't try to mess it up.

I like the tune.. as long as everyone has listened to it.

Mustang Sally ain't bad if you give it the balls it deserves. I've had people come up to me afterwards and say that what we just did is the way Mustang Sally was meant to be played. I respectfully disagreed in my head, but smiled and said thanks. None of us is Wilson Pickett, by a long shot.

I get paid to play in my cover band. That makes it a job. If my boss at my day job tells me to jump on a plane and go fix a customers machine, I go. If a patron at a place my band is playing wants to hear Mustang Sally, I put my bass face on and play it.

There are songs that I don't want to hear played on my IPOD, but if I have a job to do, I'll do it.

My senitments exactly...

If songs don't go over, take them out of your reptiore not because you don't like them, because the crowd doesn't respond.

The only thing I refuse to play is something that has people heading to the door. I am a musical whore and perfectly fine with this. there's not 1 song on my band's setlist that I like, those that I suggested included, but I still have fun playing it. There's so much good music out there that when listening to music for enjoyment during the week the last thing I want to listen to is music that I'll be performing that weekend.

Johnny B Goode ... God I hate that song!
Possum Kingdom by the Toadies ... Extreemly boring and too long!
Sympathy for the Devil ... another truly awful and boring song!
Wonderful tonight ... playing this song is like eating puke!

And most ACDC songs
And most Metal songs

:bassist:

Welcome to the Jungle
Panama(Unless everyone plays the parts 100% spot on)
Bark at the Moon - Actually, most Ozzy songs never seem to do well.. Except Momma I`m coming home.. You can get some real howlers in the crowd to that one once people have had a few drinks.

Again,
Mustang Sally
Brown Eyed Girl

and for some ungodly reason a lot of bands I play with love to do, get ready for it, Sweet Home Alabama. I never refuse to do them, that would be uncool, but gosh I hate them. HATE them.

For wedding's it would be,
Wind beneath My Wings and
Unchained Melody

and ALL disco tunes. I don't do weddings anymore, couldn't take it.
