Covers you refuse to play now or ever again

I got into a blues band and now it's all original.

I'm not even going to say it...

I'll pretty much play any request that the band is up for. There are just songs that I don't want to be on the list, even if we know them. Brown Eyed Girl, Mustang Sally. I'll play them as a request, but if no one asks I don't want them to be a planned occurrence.

If I played country, I don't think I could do, "Don't Take The Girl" just because that damn song makes me cry every time I hear it.

I will play anything for enough money. There are some that cost a lot though: Amarillo by Morning, Red Red Wine, The Chicken Dance & Anything By The Eagles. Oh & anything by Jimmy Buffet.

They say everybody and everything has it's price. I just don't know, the more I look at some of the tunes on this list, the more I wonder if there's enough money ........

I have no problem with any of the originals of these tunes. It's mostly that they've been done to death and need to be retired. Again, I'll play any of them upon request (I'll even try to pull off YYZ), but tired songs are tired songs. Let them sleep.

That's a real good answer. When I was playing covers there were always songs that we knew or were burned out on that we could play if we had requests but they were dropped from the regular rotation.

Dude, if you wanna hear the best version of Sweet Home Alabama ever google up "The Leningrad Cowboys" version. You won't believe it. They also do covers of "Happy Together", "Stairway To Heaven" "My Delaila" & "Those Were The Days". Fantastic!

I always like Kookshow's version of SHA. Totally punked out. Good luck in finding it though.

I have never and will never play Mustang Sally....ugggh!

In my old originals band, we would still get requests for this nugget. So in response, I wrote an original tune that was a cheating-whore-breakup song with a closing line in the chorus of "Get your ass out of my Mustang, Sally!"

Anyone that asked for Mustang Sally got this instead. Word.

Funny, many of the hated songs listed I have no problem playing, including Mustang Sally [I play the McCartney Taxman riff w/ it,] Brown Eyed Girl, etc.

There are many songs listed that I would never listen to on the radio, but I find it a hoot to play with my band, including Mony, Mony. Mony, Mony along with Sweet Caroline are included in my band's sellout or bar set list. It's really only a musical parody. It's funny watching the crowd sing and dance to that overplayed stuff.

Actually, yeah, I love playing Woolly Bully. I thought the song was cool when it came out and it's a hoot to play it now. My only regret is that I can't play and make the "L7" sign at the same time. That being said, it's a lot easier to enjoy playing most of the songs on the list here (and I play lots of them regularly) when the money isn't vital to my budget and when the hipness of the repertoire isn't vital to my self esteem. Neither was the case years ago and I was a lot less happy playing this stuff back when it was new.

a lot of these oft covered tunes had some really interesting subtleties that many cover bands missed,or could not duplicate live,so the "tweezed" versions got old fast........sometimes a trip back to the original is in order

My band plays the Rascals version of Mustang Sally. Different groove, same crowd response. I like it that way.
