Believe it or not, I have a rehearsal today for a gig next month and I'm currently trying to decide which of my Thornton jazz basses to take.
I have DR Chromes on #30 and Curt Mangan on #31. Decisions! Decisions!

My #30 sounded great at rehearsal, but the Chromes created some limitations with the drag they have in their characteristics.
I've been using DR Nickel Low Riders and like them a lot. Glad the bass sounded good Nightman.
Hallelujah! I played for a church service today!! I hadn't done that in over 14 months and it felt so good! I took my CP Thornton #31 and played through my Genzler MG800 going out into a 4X10 Hartke cab and to the house.
I'll be playing there this week for a 3-day Revival and most Sundays!

Right! The Genzler amp is a great amp. It has a very clean DI.
What was more interesting, nay challenging, was trying to quickly figure out what song the organist was playing using dirty chords and odd progressions.

My strings supplier finally received a shipment of Nickel Low Riders last week and shipped my two sets.
Going to install a pair on my CP Thornton for rehearsal tomorrow and Sunday's service.

My initial reacting to these Low Riders is "No New String Zing!". I like that! They feel great and the tension is perfect.
I installed them on my TR-5, which had the Dragon Skins, and played them un-amped while watching TV. I like hearing the clean "voice" of a bass and these strings certainly allow this bass to sing.
I'll learn the songs for rehearsal tonight while playing the TR-5 through a small practice bass combo. Expecting only good results and even better results tonight in the band mix.

Good evening-I recently acquired a CP Thornton neck through 5 string bass #0070689. I don't know much about it other than I believe the original owner has unfortunately passed away. It's definitely been well played and sounds amazing even with the old strings. I'm going to start rehabbing it tomorrow. Any suggestions about strings and polishing products? This seems to be the place!
