Craigslist never ceases to amaze me

It's all in the interpretation I suppose. By eliminating what he does NOT want in his band, he is certainly laying the groundwork for what he DOES want in his band, and it would warrant a further conversation to get to that. A CL ad is never a complete picture IME. I give him tons of credit for speaking his mind and being honest. He is trying to avoid certain types of musicians, and the descriptors ring true with me. We've all seen them, and he doesn't want them in his band. I also don't believe insulting people is his primary intention; that's a residual, the collateral damage of the thin-skinned people who fit the profile of what he's trying to avoid.

If you`re going to post an ad, post an ad, not a rant. It`s just as likely he`s turning off qualified people.

That's his choice, right?

In fact, the people who would be "turned off" and avoid him are doing him a favor. He created an awesome filter, but to think that no one would be intrigued and even respect his focus and standards is a big mistake. I know a lot of musicians (from all genres, well beyond "bubblegum pop") who share his worldview.

Look, it's obvious that ad ain't for everyone. That is the precise point of it.

I hear Captain Beefheart's Magic Band is looking for work since he passed.

No serious musician. I’m sure he could find a few fellows that share his world view, but no active, serious musician would follow up on a rant like this.

lol, and you are the arbiter and gatekeeper for all "'serious musicians"???? lmfao.

The irony. Something so arrogant used to accuse another of arrogance.

But don’t take my word for it. How about someone in his market??

I've seen many of these kinds of bands come and go here. I've been actively gigging in Albuquerque for about 11 years, and I play with a handful of guys who've been active here for 30+ years - through the heyday of working 6 nights/wk in clubs all over town. The good local drummers are as busy as they want to be and wouldn't put up with this guy's BS, or fall prey to his exceptionalism for a minute. And just where does he think he's gonna play? Most of the clubs are gone. There's Stoneface Tavern, Molly's, and Sandbar, and a couple other suburban neighborhood bars. He'll do well to make $200-300 for the whole band. There's plenty of breweries with their hipster clientele, but this kind of show and "craft beer" don't go well together in Albuquerque. There are some casinos, but getting a new band established in the casino market is extremely tough, and they are some of the absolute worst gigs I've played in ABQ.

I've seen a number of similar local CL ads over the years and I can't think of any that were even remotely close to the success the ad poster was proclaiming. Personally, I'll just keep making music with the people I want to make music with.

Oh, and this guy's name isn't "Lou" is it?

No...I just know enough to be pretty certain that rants don’t work. But hey, crazy is as crazy does. It’s cool if you’d think this ad is worth chasing.

I know you find this hard to believe, but I know many musicians who are trying to do something other than the average overweight dude with a goatee and dressed like he just finished his yardwork after dropping his kids off at soccer practice. That's what the ad is shooting for, and he's making it clear up front.

Don't like it? Move along, no snark required. I personally respect people who are trying to raise the bar and I give this guy a lot of credit for saving us soccer dads from wasting our time with his project.

And I wear my hair pulled straight back in a pony tail. I still respect what he's doing and feel no impulsive urgency to assert my false sense of superiority. I guess I'm secure in my own skin.

Yeah, me too.....but none of them would waste their time on this fellow. There’s a few thousand musicians here, ya know...zz;)

No...he wants a professional that looks like a rocker. Given your age and the slicked back pony tail, he apparently wants to filter out guys exactly like you based on looks alone. ;)

"No...he wants a professional that looks like a rocker."

Bingo!!! Crime of the century!!!

Fine with me, and I wish him only the best in finding what he's looking for.

Wow, it's so easy to say that. Makes the personal umbrage even harder to understand.

And it’s quite easy to wish him well, while acknowledging that his rant won’t attract real talent or stable personalities. Like I said above, he may find a match, but his methods go against his end goal.
