Craigslist never ceases to amaze me

I would think this person is well known and already have "enough" contacts that a "craigslist" calling would be a foolish thing to drum up. Heck, just spend a few hours in a music store and see who plays the drums to your likes.

It's all in the interpretation I suppose. By eliminating what he does NOT want in his band, he is certainly laying the groundwork for what he DOES want in his band, and it would warrant a further conversation to get to that. A CL ad is never a complete picture IME. I give him tons of credit for speaking his mind and being honest. He is trying to avoid certain types of musicians, and the descriptors ring true with me. We've all seen them, and he doesn't want them in his band. I also don't believe insulting people is his primary intention; that's a residual, the collateral damage of the thin-skinned people who fit the profile of what he's trying to avoid.

You certainly have a different definition of what is considered insulting then. The guy is an obvious d!ckhead, can't imagine any decent musician would have anything to do with this guy just due to his professed attitude. If you find his approach admirable ... I got nothing. :rollno:

The internet has turned people into things that post crap like that. I don't know of anyone perfect (Except the Big J) and I'm sad that anyone would find that funny. I believe "social media" has made everyone a little bit of a monster nowadays. People say things in the darkness of their rooms they would never say face to face.

Haha thanks, Geddy Lee is supreme in the bass face. Sort of, my originals band kinda fizzled out so I wanted to see if there was a cover band to do for fun. I tried hitting up the OP of the CL post and did not have a good experience hence the set list thread from a month ago. The TB community really ripped me on that post so it made me take a step back to re-evaluate things. I figured I needed to take a break from playing in bands, focus on college, and get some lessons eventually so I can actually learn how to read & write notation. Maybe gonna do some unplugged acoustic shows with my guitar buddy.

Glad to see most people can agree that what I was dealing with would've become a toxic situation if I had decided to take the gig. I honestly don't think that ad was professional at all and no it was not a joke, I talked to that guy on the phone before and he seemed like a real piece of work. I just want to point out some of the greatest music in history has been created by some really unattractive people. So physical looks shouldn't really matter when playing a band, unless you're trying to play in a bubblegum pop band.

Most of the clubs are gone. There's Stoneface Tavern, Molly's, and Sandbar, and a couple other suburban neighborhood bars. He'll do well to make $200-300 for the whole band. There's plenty of breweries with their hipster clientele, but this kind of show and "craft beer" don't go well together in Albuquerque. There are some casinos, but getting a new band established in the casino market is extremely tough, and they are some of the absolute worst gigs I've played in ABQ.

I've seen a number of similar local CL ads over the years and I can't think of any that were even remotely close to the success the ad poster was proclaiming. Personally, I'll just keep making music with the people I want to make music with.

Oh, and this guy's name isn't "Lou" is it?

Exactly, last time I played Burts there was less than 15 people there and the bar service was terrible. My guitar buddy and I are gonna try getting acoustic gigs instead of full on heavy metal gigs. Just the two of us playing to a drum machine, less drama that way. Actually his name was Matt and he's from Los Angeles.

I'm not sure, this is why he should have been more concerned about what outward appearance he IS looking for.

I gotta say I went from a full beard and hair on my head in Mar. to completely shaven in Apr. and I've gotten many compliments! It took me a few days to accept it though!! First I thought I looked like a white milk dud, if that makes sense...

I am not a sports jersey guy. I dont do sports. But i honestly dont think of an "image" when i see it, i just think "that dude loves whatever sport". I doubt I would even notice unless the whole band was wearing matching jerseys of the same team with different numbers. That 's just asking for the singer to get sacked.
