Craigslist never ceases to amaze me

Is he himself bald, with a goatee? Maybe, he's all of these and doesn't want anyone to steal HIS thunder.

Man, I'm still laughing... thanks, @TjMetalhead! I owe you...

Remember... we older musicians are not bald we are just getting more Head! ;)

I've seen many of these kinds of bands come and go here. I've been actively gigging in Albuquerque for about 11 years, and I play with a handful of guys who've been active here for 30+ years - through the heyday of working 6 nights/wk in clubs all over town. The good local drummers are as busy as they want to be and wouldn't put up with this guy's BS, or fall prey to his exceptionalism for a minute. And just where does he think he's gonna play? Most of the clubs are gone. There's Stoneface Tavern, Molly's, and Sandbar, and a couple other suburban neighborhood bars. He'll do well to make $200-300 for the whole band. There's plenty of breweries with their hipster clientele, but this kind of show and "craft beer" don't go well together in Albuquerque. There are some casinos, but getting a new band established in the casino market is extremely tough, and they are some of the absolute worst gigs I've played in ABQ.

I've seen a number of similar local CL ads over the years and I can't think of any that were even remotely close to the success the ad poster was proclaiming. Personally, I'll just keep making music with the people I want to make music with.

Oh, and this guy's name isn't "Lou" is it?

So about 3-4 weeks ago I caused a big uproar on the forums when I posted about set-list conflicts with this band I was auditioning for (there really wasn't a band yet, just a singer looking for people). It was pretty split 50-50 with consensus on that particular subject. Anyways, every so often I like to check out what's going on in the musician section on craigslist and lo-and-behold that guy I turned down is still looking for people and my god I really did dodge a bullet. If he's so insistent on finding other professionals, why the hell is he fishing in the Craigslist pond?

Shaved head & goatee clone guy was Alain Johannes. For any unfamiliar with his work, he was the frontman for Eleven (both Jack Irons and Matt Cameron did their time in that band), he played bass in Queens of the Stone Age for Lullabies to Paralyze and the accompanying tour, and played in (and produced!) Them Crooked Vultures, the fantastic collaboration with Josh Homme from QOTSA on lead and vocals, Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters on drums, and the almighty John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin (duh) on bass. I dunno, I'd say that'd badass enough to be in an Albuquerque cover band...
I noticed his picture as well. He’s a bad ass!!

That ad made me chuckle.
We’re all brothers. If he can sing, play in time, and get along with everyone else in the band, who cares what he looks like? I can however understand not wanting to invite career criminal guy or egomaniac to audition.
Except that some of us are sisters. NEED NOT APPLY.

outside of the pure arrogance of the ad, my main problem is really just the lame concept.

"The gig: An organized, rock tribute-style show. Some 60's some 70's, mostly 80's and some 90's hard rock covers. Bands like Def Leppard, Deep Purple, Priest, Ratt, Black Sabbath, Whitesnake, Ozzy, Motley, Van Halen, Dio, Zepplin, Kiss, Rush, basically all the best bands across a 30-year era. No touring, no need to quit your day job and you can still play in another band if you have one. "

Really not sure where the audience pining for a Whitesnake cover is currently existing. This dude is living in another era and i really struggle to see bands like this being viable these days.

I'm actually thinking this is a joke. (But perhaps he is the joke.) I wouldn't call 13 bands a "tribute" band, even though I have had the idea before of doing a series of "tribute concerts". It'd probably be too much work for a working band, but it could be an awesome motivator/interest-keeper-upper for a band of guys who basically want to play 6-8 times a year. 2 months to work on an XYZ concert. Then, instead of "1964 as the Beetles", you'd have "Band of Dads presents an evening of the music of The Doors". That could be fun - especially if I ever fulfill my life's dream of a part time hard rock band with rockin horn section. That many guys - it'd give everyone a chance to steer the band's direction from time to time.

he has a fantasy of magic la la land where all the good musicians who will get along with him live. All the top rate, fashionable, good looking professionals who are dying for an opportunity to play metal once or twice a month in biker bars.

Bing! That about sums it up for me! The guy is definitely in la la land.
