Craigslist ... the stupid never ends.

And several times I have actually offered work to these guys with the " Will work for food" signs. Every single one of them had some excuse why they couldn't work.

If they held signs that said, please give me a few bucks for alcohol, I might actually consider it. At least they are honest losers.

Yep. For a few years, I offered work to every guy holding a "will work for food" sign I saw. In three years, only one guy took me up on it. I gave him $10 buck for being honest.

I like the spam stuff "give me your paypal info, I am currently on assignment but the nature of my work is secret with the US government for I am in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and do not have Internet service or cell phone service, Due to my work as an oceanographer"

Here's a tip: many of these guys aren't homeless...........

I know. Some are legit, some are scamming. The difference is that you deny helping out everyone out of fear you might be duped by a false beggar.

I'm more afraid of someone genuinely starving to death when I could have done something to help. A couple bucks ain't gonna hurt me at all to lose.

I don't know. It seems an awfully hard way to scam people if you ask me. Personally, I'd rather just get a job than risk the laws, boredom, abuse and carbon monoxide poisoning. If they think thats really the way to do it, maybe they need the money more than they realize. Mental health care is expensive.

Yet they do it everyday. There have been numerous news stories about such scams, and how prolific they are. There are lots of ways of helping people without handing out money on the corner.

Anyone who has to resort to mind numbing boredom of hanging around an off ramp all-day enduring a constant fog of carbon monoxide and occasional verbal abuse from passers-by.

I always give those poor people a few bucks and thank god my life has not gotten that bad.

Now the guy in the BMW wanting a free bass.... yeah, uh. no.

They are "enduring" Nothing! They are too lazy to work. Just watch any of the news reports on these people. Some of them make $50K+ yearly, tax free.

......and again we have people who pity and promote this activity. Like the craigslist guy, people who think they deserve something from someone they are not willing to work for themselves.

I really don't want to judge the guy too harshly, but it's certainly not how I would go about it.

When I took up bass again, about two years ago, I bought my Jazz bass by selling some stuff. Not all of it I wanted to part with, but the bass was more important, so I found a way to make the money happen.

Same when I stumbled upon a used P I wanted a while back.

Ever read the free section on CL? People give away stuff that's potentially worth way more than an a beater bass.

Guy was up front, honest, and asked. Nothing shady, no harm no foul, what's the issue? What, would it chap yer butt if he got a nice one, and you're mad you didn't think of it first? Perhaps I'm being more charitable than the next person, I don't feed the booze bums, but still...

I like how he adds that he's going to be dead soon as a way of short circuiting people asking why he doesn't get off his cheap, lazy butt and go buy a bass. Personally, I never go on Craigslist since it's dangerous--like hitchhiking--it's dangerous. Sooner or later, you are going to run into someone there...

I have also offered people holding signs reading "will work for food", actual work and I've ALWAYS been turned down.

Last time I was in ATL I saw a guy holding a sign that read "Why lie, I just want a cold beer" I gave him enough for a sixer.

As for the average craigslister, I put a ding free little MIM J bass up for $300 and got all manner of strange replies. Everything from people telling me I was a fool because I turned down their $20 offer to a guy who got really nasty and told me I was going to hell when I refused to "donate" my bass to his music ministry.

It's no different than this ad and so many like them:

Looking to book bands (need exposure?) (Louisville ky Dixie hwy )
I am looking to book two bands to perform at a local venue.

There will be no pay but you will get exposure and a opportunity to grow a fan base, as well as perform again in the future.

This is 21 and up.
We are looking for rock/metal for the most part but will review other genre's also.
Send me a link to your website and/or something to hear at least 3 songs. You do need enough songs to cover a 45min time slot.. This will be saturday July 13th 10pm-2am.
