Crazy reasons for breaking up the band

So I told a guitarist friend of mine if he put a band together I'd play bass. So he did that and we had a pretty good band going. We brought in his cousin/friend to manage the band, basically book shows for us and do all that other stuff so we didnt have to.
At some point our guitarist starts dating this girl, who happened to be our drummer's ex band mate and that caused some tension, but we played through. Cousin/friend/manager doesnt like the idea of them dating and tries to control the situation. We were booked to play a show, drummer, lead guitar, and I all show up but my guitarist friend does not. We call him a few times. Finally he calls us back. He's at home, with his girlfriend, on mushrooms, and they cant drive tot he gig. So we said eff it and played without him and decide thats the final show. A few days later the drummer shows up at lead guitarists house (both guitarists are brothers) at 8am. Guitarists girlfriend is at the door outside when drummer shows up and starts telling her that he's in love with guitarist and makes things awkward/creepy. We did end up playing another show a few months later, but we went into it knowing that would be our send off and things have never been the same since.

:eek: usually the other way around, bass player maybe not kicked out, but given a stern warning by egotistical drummer, singer or guitar player for having more than 4 strings. Hasn't happened to me, but we'll see when I get my 6 string, eventually...

A metal band we used to play with back in the day kicked out I think it was their singer, for listening to, not emulating or suggesting that the band play, Jane's Addiction.

Not really crazy. Great psych/jammy stuff. Keyboard player got junkied up and was unreliable.

I bring that up to bring this up...

So, during the hiatus, Drummer (who is a professional musician) goes back to New York to play the 88 Boadrum show, and do a few tours. Me and guitarist still get together and come up with some riffs.

Guitarist joins an RNB group as a side just to make some cash/play shows. Isn't really happy with it, since he basically plays one chord for 30 minutes per show, and the band itself is literally every stereotype you've ever heard about a band. People arguing over how serious the others are, obsessive and controlling pretty boy lead singer who stiffs others over music, drugs causing instruments to get pawned, etc.

They were playing a benefit show one night. Practice very hard for the week prior. Then, 15 minutes before the show the band leader changes their whole set for the night, and they completely bombed.

I once played in a band that was booked for a month in Milwaukee. We all stayed on the same floor of the hotel where we were playing .All went well for the first 3 weeks then the girl singer started acting funny, avoiding everyone else etc. On our final Friday we were well into set 3 and I see one of the PA cabinets go flying off the stand near the stage and the girl singer was pulling the hair of the conga player and spitting on him. She stormed out of the place. I had no clue what was going on. We finished the night without her and later found out she accused the conga player of raping her in her room. He said he never went in her room. We got fired and the guitar player fired her. Since she was the main draw, our booking agent fired us and no more band. I still am not sure what really happened!:ninja:

This is wierd how this happened.Last band i was with if you could call it that was a trio. The drummer wanted to make it aquartet and get a lead singer. The drummer and the guitarist wanted to play in bars. I just wanted to keep it for fun. Now here's the wierd part. I broke up because the other two guys weren't as committed to playing as I was and either showed up late all the time or kept having their friend come over to sing (who sucked) And I was the one who just wanted to have fun go figure.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned money yet as a reason for the breakup of a promising band. In the 80's I was in an excellent club group successfully playing "A" list rooms for over six years. One of the musicians (not a founding member) accused another (a founding member) of having his hand in the till. I don't think it was literally true; I think the accused member was just a little too casual with his bookkeeping, but not dishonest. Over the next 10 months it lead to the end of a very successful band. I still think it was more about a personality conflict between the two parties then anything really crooked. If it hadn't been over money the conflict would have manifested anyway, over some other pretext.

Note to self: must stay in closet when listening to King Crimson, Magma and Uriah Heep. :ninja:
Actually, my guitar player loves these bands too, and the original band where I play guitar is influence by them, though the only clue is our occasional guest Hammond player. The drummer does like Foghat and Blue Oyster Cult though...:scowl: :D We don't hold it against him and won't use it as an excuse to break up the band.
