Criminally commercially unsuccessful bands

Texas Is The Reason
Story goes the day they were going to sign with capitol records and be the next huge alternative band in the 90’s two members got cold feet and backed out and broke up. Capitol was counting on them blowing up. First song off their only album.
In the same genre, Sunny Day Real Estate. They released emos best album, even 25 years later. Dave Grohl loved Sunny Day Real Estate so much he took two of their members when he formed the Foo Fighters lineup.
And lastly Sigur Ros. And not because they have a real commercial sound but because they are the best band not many listen to. But for a while they were every bands’ favorite band, being asked to tour with everyone from Metallica to Radiohead. I don’t know anyone who’s listened to them who hasn’t enjoyed it for at least some reason.

Moby Grape was a contrived band. It was put together by the studio with the thought the studio had full control. It didn't work.
The actual problem here is us. We are musicians and we listen to music differently than the "unwashed masses". We go beyond "It has a good beat and I can dance to it." To appreciate music, you have to understand it. It is like a sommelier knows everything about wine and which will be the best served with what. I know there is red and white. If there is a $3.00 bottle and a $50.00 bottle, I'll take the $3.00 bottle. It really doesn't matter to me.
But, I will not listen to The Archies.
LeRoux from Louisiana...my favorite band and Leon Medica was/is a beast on bass
In my opinion, Savatage fell victim, as did a lot of other bands, to the explosion of grunge. Some of it may have been that their name was a turn off to a lot of people. Sarajevo 12/24 was released by Savatage and you could hear the crickets chirping. It was re-released as a Trans-Siberian Orchestra song and is one of the most popular Christmas songs ever.
From the past...Louisiana LeRoux...The Subdudes...the BoDeans. Great songwriters/songs.
Descendents/ALL are criminally underappreciated!

Some friends of mine in Raging Slab. I see one of the guitarists who played with the band from 1986 to 1995 often. He has a band locally, which I have hired, and he owns a club and have jammed with him.
I agree they should have gone further.
