Gee-yah! This thread is not good for anyone with a weakness for fine woods and lotsa strings. I send good vibes to all those who are waiting (patiently and not so much) for the men and women in the brown vehicles to show up. I hope I can join in your anticipation soon.

Well, this is a parts project rather than a custom, but it will be a long wait either way. Just ordered a new Warmoth which will be very unique. It's going to be their Z body with a deluxe 5 neck, with the angled Warmoth headstock. Ash body, maple/maple neck with an Inca Silver body and headstock face, satin finish maple neck. It'll have Nordstrand pups, an NP5 and a NJ5S with an Aguilar OBP-3 preamp and an 18mm ABM roller type bridge. I'll have to wait until the bass is built before I can order the pickups though, to make sure I have them built to the correct spacing, so this project will take me into probably Febuary at the earliest. It will be worth it though!:cool:

Hah! I get to join the legions of folks who can't concentrate on work/school/relationships due to the all-encompassing anticipation of the 'soon-to-be-delivered' perfect instrument. I approached Dave Clement about a 5 string fretless and it looks like a go. This is my first custom and first fretless bass, so I'm a bit giddy about the whole deal. No pics yets (obviously as events warrant, I'll address that), but a few specs:

35" scale
Single-cut one piece swamp ash body
Striped ebony board, 5 piece maple/wenge bolt on neck
Nordstrand MM 5.2, passive, volume and tone
Schaller roller bridge, Gotoh tuners, tigerwood control knobs

Not exactly a pangaea of precious woods but I expect it to be a very serviceable and solid bass. My budget is puny and Tom has been more than accomodating, patiently conferring with me and answering my boatload of emails promptly. Very cool.

I just last night put in my deposit to Nino. I'm having him make me a 5-string P with one Nordie stacked-singlecoil P pup in the "sweet spot", passive, with only a tone knob. Swamp ash body with tobacco-burst finish, birdseye fretboard with vintage tint finish. Small "vintage" frets (inspired by Lee Sklar) and strung with Sadowsky flats. Pure, no-frills rock and roll! And he says he can get the overall weight down around 8 lbs.

Love the idea of no-frills rock and roll !! That's why I just wanted one p/u, 1 volume with my custom Sei bass. Nothing to get in the way !!

All the basses and proposed builds on here are lookin' and sounding great !! The waiting goes by surprisingly quickly...

I finally have something to post on this thread. Just got back from NY and a trip to the Fodera shop where I met with David Beasley from the Grooveshoppe to pick out the woods for my bass.
