Custom Bass Wait Support Group Needed!!!

Well i have been in the Club since July 3rd...sort of.

i play the Chapman Stick and have now ordered my 1st custom one.
12 strings, Tarara wood, 90 degree frets, stereo humbucking pickups, and oyster shell inlays.

it should be done the last week of december and i will be in LA on January 2nd so i should be able to pick it up then...however, you never know what could come up and cause a delay!

good luck for everyone else waiting...

Bryan England's Custom Inlay: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

tommy at usacg will only need the neck for a day to finish it once the inlays are done, then it's off to roxy for the finishing.

the final step is to get it put together, a feat that i won't touch with a stolen screwdriver! i wish i could do it myself but that would just be disastrous. :eek: (not exactly sure who will assemble it for me yet...)

no problem.

not sure about the binding, but i have to call custom inlay on friday so i'll ask then. you'll obviosly see pics of their work when i get the bass.

i had a mental lapse when i ordered this bass. i had emailed nino first and he said that warmoth doesn't do block inlays on their 5 string necks. i then decided it was going to be usacg... who don't do ANY block inlays in house. i guess i could have ordered a valenti and outsourced the blocks (like i had to do anyway). :rollno:

don't get me wrong. tommy has been fantastic! it just would have been cool to "keep it in the family". maybe i'll email nino to see if he'll assemble this one for me. :ninja:

ok... anybody thinking about block inlays from 'custom inlay', listen up.
i had to pay a 25 dollar drawing fee for my five string neck. they should have it on file now. the only ones they had programmed in were for a six string guitar. ask for jason. really nice guy! he did a great job with the proportions. (just got the faxed drawing today). he's going to try to run it friday... the wait continues. :help:

On the Low End Jazz bass. The good news is that I managed to get ahold of my custom's "sister bass" in Indianapolis so I could get a general feel for what was coming. It was great! The Low End jazzes have a really nice handmade feel to them with the familiarity of the full size jazz bass body, and they've got tone and playability for days. In short, I got a little bit of a teaser to get me through the end of the wait! Compared to a Sadowsky in the shop, I thought the tone was more versatile with a tight snappy F-bass sound as well as more traditional super-jazz tones.

I was slowly getting ready for my Sadowsky made xmas present for myself (NYC P/J 4 standard, with morado, alder, Quilt maple, natural finish). Just found out it has been delayed. It won't be ready until February!!!

That is a very big time bummer. Already have waited a little more than 4 months. Now 4 more to go.

Oh well. I still question whether I deserve such an incredible instrument. More time to work on my playing to make me feel worthy of it, I suppose.

The only bright side is that it will be much less of a budget buster for me in February than in December. Also, I now might be able to get to the Sadowsky shop before it's done, as I am hoping to be in NYC sometime in January.

well, if we weren't gigging/touring so much, I'd be all over that (particularly since I've never been to the shop!), but right now it's just not practical. although if the bass doesn't show up before we get our slot playing with Karl Denson, I may have to book up north!

Hey Stew (or anyone) how does exactly Conklin takes to go from ordering to actual building? I was expecting to see some woods by this time around but no word ever since, is it too soon?

Yes. Bill and Mike are very busy these days so don't get impatient (I know how hard that can be).

hey Luis,

I absolutely agree with Mark here. I always tell Bill what I'm after in terms of sound and sometimes I'll mention an aesthetic idea I've got... he's an artist, though, and never ceases to amaze me with his creations!

sorry for the dealy in getting to this thread, by the way. the BOG was on the road for the last few days and just got home.
