CuteCube² Guitar - Play-in System for String Instruments

If the purpose is to show the difference in tone that the vibrator makes, why would you purposely throw in another variable into the mix and turn off one of the P/Us for one of the takes. That in itself ruins the whole experiment, no?

+1
If there was ever a shred of validity to the original claim, this variable alone destroys the proposition. Has the OP ever conducted a valid experiment? Seems unlikely, and IMO he has done more to push the company's reputation into fairy tale land than the company could have done on their own.

BTW, a buddy told me that Marleaux swings-in their top line models, they especially built a construction where they can swing in multiple basses at the same time, got an extra room for it. Now that's a respectable bass maker company...why in the world would they do that if it doesn't do anything?

Louder and richer acoustic tone of a bass can not be emulated by higher volume setting or EQ, because it's a non electric energy...more tonal presence of a bass guitar on stage you can not get with "more amp"...that's why we spend lot's of money to get that tiny little bit of extra tone that makes the whole difference on stage.

Glad i did the test, the bass plays fast and like butter after one week of treatment, will take the baby to a gig next weekend where I don't really need a 5-String.

Now as you have to play on the bass to feel the difference before and after treatment, you would have to to take my word on that. Probably nobody will, I expected that when I posted this...I might have said this is BS too ;)

Hey, as FM's buying Sire's like crazy...let it run on a brand new Sire for a month in between playing...you will be happy as a critter :smug:

Might get me a V7 myself, so I can check it in with the luggage when I fly to gigs. If I do I'll do another test, on brand new basses you get the biggest play-in results as the never have been played.

And one more time...this thread is not a joke.

Their website makes no such claim that I could find.

Maybe it isn't intended as such, but it's a joke to me.

I missed why it would play or feel different. How does the vibration change the way it plays?

Last time I checked, the only way to change the a way a bass feels/plays is by adjusting the intonation, bridge saddles/string height, truss rod, using different strings and physical modifications like rolling fretboard edges, filing/changing the nut or levelling/crowning frets.

OP, why don't you respond to all the issues that we've brought up with your experiments instead of just repeating yourself?..

Like why did you add synth lines into the mix (and only on some but not all the tracks) when we're supposed to be paying attention to the supposed change in bass timbre.. unless it was to misdirect our attention?..

Or, why you are changing which P/Us you use from one test to another.. unless it was to misdirect our attention?..

Or why haven't you even attempted to point out where the different cuts are on BadJazz's cut 'n paste track?

We have pointed out these very big inconsistencies with your experiment, and until you address each one of these I will continue to believe this whole idea of yours is nothing but hot air. How could anyone not think that at this point? Respond to these questions or just stop I say.

OP is now clearly moving the goalposts (backtracking) in his above post:

Now as you have to play on the bass to feel the difference before and after treatment, you would have to to take my word on that.

As I said before, OP is a disingenuous shill, and he's bordering on outright lies now. When does this post becoming a rules violation?

Bordering on?

He has thick skin; I'll give him that.
I don't think there is anything wrong with his reviews/passion for the vibrating speaker thingy.

For example, I recieved a brand new bass exactly a month ago. After 50-60 hours of playing, it sounds totally different now! Interesting, as it is actually more dull and closed sounding. Must be the wearing in of the wood though.

Never mind, I just realized that I haven't changed the strings yet.:woot:

And one problem with fairy tales is, after they are thoroughly rebutted and thrown into the urban legend trash bin, they somehow, weirdly, gain traction again...as if the logic used to delegitimize the original fable is completely ignored. Makes me think that either people are actively shilling for these business concerns, or they need to relook their thinking processes.

FYI, yesterday I wrote Gerald Marleaux an Email, just got an answer. They do offer a "play-in" for any of their basses for around € 400,- where the strings are constantly played from several days up to a couple of weeks. Gerald wrote that the response and tone after the treatment is like you played the bass for several years.

$500-600 to "play in" a bass. Wow.
That is good business. Twice the cost of a full fret job and next to no actual work.

Wow, I think that would be a perfect job for a lot of us on TB. Send us your new bass, we will play it contstantly for a few weeks, and then ship it back, all for only $500.

Hell, for an extra couple of hundred we will even gig it for you, so it gets used to "playing out"!

:D

That was very diplomatic of him. If you'll notice, he did not say anything that could be proven false; "...like you played the bass for several years" doesn't necessarily mean that it makes any difference to the sound or playability of the bass, only that it's "the same". As to the reason he would offer this "service", why, for the money, of course. The music and audiophile markets are rife with folks who are all too glad to take your money in exchange for a product or service which does nothing more than feed a myth. $485 wooden volume knobs, anyone? $1500 AC power cords? $100/ft speaker cables?
