CWB 14: Whiskey and Beer

After my motorcycle accident in the early 90's I was immoble for a while. I did some pen and ink line drawings like this of Pittsburgh landmarks from memory or photographs. I would cut a simple mat and put them in inexpensive frames. I sold a couple of hundred of them at a local flea market over an 18 month period. I didn't make a lot of money, but it kept me busy.

We had a rehearsal night tonight. As I have been doing lately I played my newer Ric. At one point a Guitard broke a string. While he was changing it I looked at my bass stand and saw my poor neglected Geddy Lee J sitting there. Decided to put it on and show it some love. Thought it would be natural. Nope. The teeny skinny neck felt small in my hand and the tone sounded like crap!

Put th Ric back on and felt the warm love from it.

In fairness, the amp tone is dialed in to favor the Ric so I forgive the J for sounding flat (and it could probably stand new strings).

As for the neck, I just found that interesting after reading so many threads where some guys say "thick necks" and some say "thin necks." i've now proved to myself it is what you get used to. The Geddy used to feel natural when it was my main player. When I got the Ric I had to work at being comfortable on the neck. Now it feels natural.

It's all about what you get used to.

Wow. Just. Wow.

All this wonderful art! You guys are amazing. I never learned to sketch or paint or draw or anything like that. I appreciate it a great deal - but I could never do it. I took up photography when I was 15 and it's been a fun hobby through the years. I can sew, quilt, embroider, needlepoint, and all those little needle artsy things, but I struggle to sit still and focus on them anymore. Now when I'm being artsy, mostly I write.

Remodeling update - walls painted, baseboards painted, mouldings painted, french doors masked.

To do - paint french doors, bleach the concrete one more time, lay flooring, install new blinds, install ceiling fan, move in schtuff, post before/during/after pics, sleep.

Sweet! Right now I am all for the sleep part. I'm sore from yesterday's workout at the gym, and today my co-worker and I did a 3.5 mile walk (not fun when your legs are sore). I mowed the yard after I got home. I am more than ready for bed!!

I did a good stint on my bike last night (inside on a resistance stand) and then played hockey at 7 AM today. I could barely move by 9 AM. Why am I still up?

Glad I could make her chuckle :) Seriously, realtors look for things like that to offer clients both buying and selling. A memory of the house they lived in for a lot of years or the picture of the house that will start building memories. It could at least keep you in cymbal felt and the little wing nuts on top if the market is slim

DT, it's true. When we start making art or music just for others we lose a part of ourselves. But creating a representation of ourselves in our art is what draws others in so they may hold our thoughts in their minds for a brief moment.

I keep looking at the contour of your bass and thinking, I'd like to rock that sucker ( helps that you paired it w a nice 8x10) :bassist:

Don't I know the term starving artist :bawl:
My side gig after college was drawing portraits privately. It was a nice gig, but when personal computers and high quality photography gear became more affordable and accessible the commissions dried up. The exception would be the occasional fat cat wanting a portrait for his office. Those always cracked me up.
