CWB: 23 TBD

no dont be i love designing stuff its my hobby

You're awesome!

So, last night my band played the opening night for our usual venue's second location. I brought the Squier with me after putting new Dr Hi-beams on it. I set the GK MB fusion flat with the tone knob on the squier wide open and used only the p-bass p/u. The resulting tone through the 210 cabinet was awesome. I never got that with the 'ray. That Squier is gonna be a regular.

The gig went well..lots of people there and we got tipped very well (as well as a bump in our pay from the owners..score!). The owners asked us if we'd be willing to play every Friday or Saturday there and alternate locations. One week at one and play the next week at the other. I'm pretty humbled by that..

DT, if I were you I would investigate Wilde Pickups by Bill Lawrence.

Look him up. He is a legend. He and his wife, Becky, wind these in their home and because it is a
"cottage industry" they are relatively cheap but you will be hard pressed to find a better pup set

I didn't know he made a bass pick-up - the acoustics pick-ups that I 've heard have been extremely good - I never heard a pick up that came close.

I bet "our" Drummer could take this to a new level.

I'm seriously digging that chick's ink!

So we played tonight. The open mic was quite busy as you might expect. They let the younger folk go first. One band of high school age kids did a nice "Whole Lotta Live" and then followed that up with an original tune that was really good. Not my style but it was performed well and I still enjoyed it. Apparently they have an audition with America's Got Talent or maybe the Canadian version of same.

We played "Money" (Beatles, not PF) and the Psycho Killer. Proud to say that we were the only band that moved some people to get up and dance! A good night anyway.

Sounds like a fun way to spend a Halloween! :bassist:

Its that P Bass magic bro.

DT did i see in another random thread that you defretted a bass?

I'm about to head down that road and wanna get some input.

Yes, I did. I did the cheap, lazy route and did wood putty to fill the fret slots. I then used polyurethane to coat the board. It sounds ok and plays ok.

In retrospect, I would have used veneer strips to fill the slots and then tru-oiled the board.

Do the veneer strips to fill the slots. Pick the coating of your choice for the board..

Would the veneers make that much of a difference vs. the putty?

I read that putty can compress and might not be as stable as the veneers or plastic but I thought the point of the putty was to harden to the strength of well...wood?
