CWB: Catch 22

Mornin' peeps....getting ready to load up from Reading and head for Greensboro. Yes - it's about 11. I slept in. It's more sleep than I've had any single night for nearly a month, so it was time; and I'm on vacation, after all.

This was an amazing experience for me. I understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I will definitely be back. Some of my highlights of the weekend besides the new Roscoe:

1) Hang time with Drummer. He's such an awesome guy and we had a blast before he left. Hope you get to feeling better, hon, and that you got some quality time with Miss Jackie.

2) Groove class with Patrick Pfeiffer. Such a funny guy and so, so, so knowledgeable. Finally I know how to start building a sound around nothing when the drummer hits a beat and says, "Oh, just play anything." I'll take a while to be good at it, I'm sure, but now I have a starting point.

3) People I've only read about passed me in the hall and called me by name. They stood in hallways and sat in classrooms and at dinner tables and talked to me (and other students) like we were all part of the same world. That probably sounds weird, but for those of you who've toured and recorded and other deeply advanced stuff, I think you'll get where I'm going. Whether it's intended or not, there's the invisible barrier between that level of players and the beginner/weekender. This weekend, that barrier didn't exist.

4) The private lessons. OMG. Even though 30 minutes is a really short lesson, I got SO much out of my time with Anthony Wellington, Michael Manring, and Adam Nitti. These guys were amazing. I have so much to bring back with me that I can apply every day in practice and to my playing.

Not everyone's experience will be the same, but I'm definitely planning to come back next year.

Michael Manring played at a NE gtg a few years back. Truly awesomely talented guy, and really down to earth. Great experience.

Yeah, I hear ya about the barriers. Good for you, you've found a real home with real musical friends. It doesn't get much better than that.

I have to write up the whirlwind weekend, hopefully by the end of the day.

PS, Adam Nitti is an AWESOME guy!

Your experience sounds great, Ms Heart. Glad you got to do what you wanted for a few days.
I wanted to come up and hang after hours, but one of the things that kept me away was recording studio time early on Sunday. At least that was fruitful. Finally done mixing a couple more.

Here's one of them from Sunday. The producer says it's a hit single. Don't know about that. but I do know it's an earphone song. Loud. Andy "Funky Drummer" Kravitz played drums on this one.

It's okay...studio time comes first. I can't listen till I get home. Soundcloud has deemed that I must sign in to listen and I don't have an account.

I love your band, Jim. I just left soundcloud up and let it stream through.

I had fun and I didn't even attend the boot camp. But hanging around the fringes of it while visiting family was a win-win for me. Got to meet drummer and basswave and a couple of other TBers, and ogled a lot of great gear. And, of course, got to see Tat - any MoCWB always wants to see a Thumpketeer ... :hyper:

CWB's and MoCWB's my birthday is coming up and since I got a tax return for the first time in 15 years I decided to treat myself. Picked up this G&L L-2500FL on ebay last night; further reports when it arrives next week!

Some of you have visited the web page tribute to the band I was in back in the 70's; well, there will be a 40th reunion concert of that band at an amphitheatre on the levy down town Charleston on August 23rd. The only problem is they want me to play drums, conga and banjo like I did then. Have to get my chops back in five months; gonna be fun...

Hey CWB folks, this is Michael (dreadlocks) from Bootcamp. Hope all is well with you all!

Michael! Welcome sweetie. Feel free to stick around and chat us up. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find a female bassist whose picture we haven't posted in the thread and get us a picture of her with her bass and without so we can compare which we like better. ;)

Or...just hang out and chat.

As I said after the exam Sunday night - you sounded really really good. I'm hoping that next year I do better. At the very least, I'm going to bring my own bucket, just in case.

Sweet acquisition, G. Sorry I didn't make it through your neck of the woods this trip. Life happened. I'm gonna get there though. When I do, am I gonna get to fondle the basses? ;)

Thanks, Tat! Yeah, your plans went majorly askew but I admire the way you rode the storm and landed upright. You have a lot of strength. Girl, you can fondle anything I have worth fondlin' ;)
