Here are a couple of cool pics from Gerald Veasley's Bass Boot Camp.

These are the instructors for 2013, from left to Right:

Anthony Wellington, Michael Manring, Patrick Pfeiffer, Gerald Veasley, Adam Nitti and Janek Gwizdala

Sadly, that is all of my pics. I felt that I wasn't getting anything out of Bass Boot Camp and I headed home early. I was looking forward to spending time with Jackie as we were apart for two weeks.

Tat is AWESOME of course and hanging with her is always a blast. It was great to meet Chuck, although we didn't get to talk as much as I'd have liked. (There was a band that was a bit loud for conversation, I got to talk with him some during their break.) I also got to hang with a few other TBers, there were more than a few there.

The instructors were great, but most of them didn't seem geared to beginers at all. Adam Nitti was the exception, he was great that way. I had a workshop with Anthony Wellington which he started by telling the beginer class that we were getting the same instruction as the intermediate and advanced classes. If you had some prior backround in theory, it would be great. I was lost 30 seconds in. I'm confident that I wasn't the only one in the room that was lost.

Getting to see these masters play was entertaining, but it really didn't do anything to advance my playing. What I learned is that without a band to hold them back these guy can and do solo harder than most guitarists. I don't have any interest whatsoever in learning to play bass as a solo instrument. I admire those who can and do, it's just not my thing.

The other thing is my body wasn't holding up well to the long days. I was limping and having speech issues, pushing it didn't seem prudent.

I'm turning into a grumpy old man I suppose.

I'm back home from the Expo.
It was - ah - smaller - than I expected...
No regrets and yes, I am happy that it was available at all.
Got to meet Tat and Chuck who are of course great people.
Spoke at some length with Mr Basswave who was kind enough to play a bit so I could hear and appreciate the RevSound cabinets.

The 2x10 made me happy - but I wanted to be _more_ happy ;-)
The 4x10(T) sounded a-m-a-z-i-n-g.
I have no doubt it's a great value although it is a little more than I was looking to spend. Fortunately I didn't have to make any hard decisions on "1-day pricing Show Special Cash & Carry" today. I'll have to think on this since there are a lot of well-known and respected products for less... (And, I have no doubt, for more...)

What I really needed to hear was definition and presence for the low-B and it had all that, bigtime - but not boomy. It seems the corner of the market they've staked out is the 'even response, light-weight' segment and they deliver. I just need to save my nickels and dimes...

What were they asking for the 2x10 and 4x10?

Man that room is full of Aguilar, Fodera, and Zon win!!
Glad to see a number of 6ers there. They are rare beasts out where I am.

I've got their pricing blurb with the marketspeak.
Finnish birch plywood and NH white pine.
Revsound proprietary neo drivers by Celestion. 300W Tweeters, 18 dB/Octave crossovers.

There's a link to the Revsound site stuff over in the Bass BootCamp/Expo thread.

210 - $500
410 - $875
+$75 for the tweeter versions. -- so $950 for the 410T.

Plus shipping from New Hampshire...

I gather these are 8-Ohm cabinets but don't hold me to those details...

That's more than I was hoping to pay but I think it's worth it. I'll just have to wait a while longer...

One more note - I couldn't help but wonder who plans the product inventory at some of the vendors. Many beautiful basses for sale - I didn't come to buy a bass tho. I *DID* come to buy a T-shirt - maybe a couple. I was in the door -before- the official opening time of 10 a.m. There was not a 'L' or 'XL' T-shirt to be had. A few 'M', many 'S'.

Who doesn't come to an event like this prepared to sell L and larger T's ?

Yeah, I'll probably wind up going to their website for what I want, but seriously - big fail IMO...

I'm gonna hafta light up the airbrush again and spray some of my own...

That's not a bad deal for birch actually.
The Bag End D10BXD is $980 in carpet and more in birch ( list $1,150)

But it's a Bag End 2x10 that will do anything you ask it to. It's also 70lbs.

I'll have to check out the Revaound gear when I come next year.
Thanks for the info

If I've passed out some mis-information let me try to correct it - but I don't claim to know any more about the products than I got in conversation this morning.

The real information is here: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

The construction is Finnish birch plywood and white pine.
They're 30 lbs, says the webpage.
They're upholstered in a selection of Tolex colors and textures - pick one. I don't know if they offer a 'plain' (varnished?) cabinet - you'd have to ask them. I gather their standard offerings are Tolex.

I found absolutely nothing wrong with the sound of the 2x10, other than the 4x10 had more of it ;-)

If I were a practical person I expect the 2x10 would be a better choice for me, but I do not claim to be practical in this regard. Besides - not for nothing do I have a half-ton pickup even though i expect the cab will rarely if ever leave the house...

Great pics you guys..looks like you are all having a great time at bass camp.

My tandem jump was today..I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, despite my fear of heights. The only part of the whole thing that scared me (if you want to call it that), was swinging my legs outside. The free-fall was exhilarating!! After the canopy deployed and he adjusted my harness, he handed the controls over to me..that part to me was the best. The sensation while making a turn was so awesome..a feeling of weightlessness and then "whoooosh".

This was taken before the jump..the smile that is on my face is muuuuuch bigger now!!

Mike, it was great to meet you too, and yeah it was hard to converse with the volume levels in the bar there.

I agree with both the points you make, based on my limited observation of the boot camp. (For those not aware, I was there for a family matter, and not attending the boot camp although hanging out with those who were.) First, I think there should be material clearly aimed at those who are beginners, and there didn't seem to be. Second, while all the bass instructors are completely amazing bassists, even though I'm fairly advanced I don't have much interest in bass guitar as a solo instrument. So there's room to teach technique that is aimed at advanced bassists but not necessarily those who solo in their bands (which I don't, on bass).

That said, it was amazing to see 75 or so bass players all walking around all weekend with their basses, and all the nice gear on display today at the expo. Plus, of course, I got to spend time with a Thumpketeer. :bassist:
