Lol, thanks bro.
I posted this on FB, and I will put it up here:
I'm going to write this down while I can still remember the experience - My wife and I got to the airfield at around 10:30 am. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. We got through check-in and stood around and waited for someone to guide us into the next step. A friend of ours, Sean , was there trying to fulfill his jump quota to get the next license level. He found out when we were jumping, and shortly afterwards we got geared up. We met our instructors and got a short course in what to do. A few moments later, we were boarding a small plane. Next stop, 12500 ft. The ride up was interesting. I was sitting closest to the "door", which was basically a plexi roll-up. I watched our ascent, and soon, my instructor was adjusting my harness and clipped me into his. The green light flashed, and the "door" was opened. Solid green light. "Holy crap, this is really happening" flashed into my head. Two solo jumpers departed the plane, and I was next. The instructor told me to swing my legs out of the plane..that was the only time that I felt any sort of panic. The instructor counted off - "1, 2 - GO!". We were free-falling. I have a fear of heights, but for some strange reason, I felt safe!! We "flew" by using our hands and arms to direct the air to make us turn. I really really enjoyed the fall. The instructor told me to put my hands back onto my harness so that he could deploy the canopy and even offered that task to me. I respectfully declined. Canopy deploys and suddenly, I felt really heavy..holy crap what a feeling that was. It was brief, and we're now gliding. The visibility today was outstanding..one could see the Catalina Islands off in the distance, and Big Bear mountain seemed to be really close. I found myself looking down more than out. After the instructor adjusted my harness, he had me take the controls. I wasn't expecting that. He showed me how to steer, and started off with some slow, gentle turns. He then showed me how to make fast turns..wooooo that was FUN! The feeling that occurred shortly before the turn actually happened was surreal. You felt suspended for a very brief moment in time, followed by a rapid "whoooooooooosh", and you have made a ninety degree turn. The canopy ride was over too quickly for me..I was actually bummed when I realized that the landing was going to happen. We made it down without any problems, and I was ecstatic. I didn't have to wait long for my wife to make her landing. I am actually bummed that I don't have video.
