He's terrified of storms, but will follow me outside if I go out in one to keep me safe, he's the most passive dog you can imagine, but when I brought my son home as a newborn, I laid him down and walked away to get a drink only to hear a deep growl from the other room. I would never choose the dogs over my family (well maybe my brothers...lol) and if I had walked into the vet and they told me on day one that his treatment would probably end up costing me the price of a new Kia, well, I probably would have let him go. But as it went, the bills just kept adding up one day at a time, one new thing after another, and once it got so bad, it became a choice of a dead dog and a lot of debt, or a live dog and a little more than a lot of debt. You know, like when your gambling, and you just don't know when to quit. When I thought he was going to die, there was a sort of relief that it was all going to be over, but kind of a feelin+
g of failure too. Like he wasn't dying because he was old, he was dying because I didn't care for him as well as I could have. I don't know.
I don't fault you (or anyone else) for disagreeing with me. For sure. I often feel pretty stupid about it myself, to be perfectly honest. And if your intent wasn't to call me stupid, then my feelings are not hurt. :)

FM, I once paid $500 I absolutely did NOT have (as I was a broke college student at the time) for emergency surgery for a stray kitten (found it have dead in the parking lot outside my apartment) that only had a 50% chance of living through it - and I could not have pets where I was living! So, I spent all this money (she thankfully lived) and then had to sneak this kitty into an apt. to keep her until I could find someone more suitable to take care of her. In retrospect, it was an irresponsible thing to do - BUT I DO NOT REGRET IT FOR A MOMENT!!! Just because animals are not people does not mean they are not worth fighting for - their lives have value, and as I think back on it, I feel like I made the morally correct choice -though I did have a rough time paying the bills over the next couple of months and risked getting evicted (thankfully, that didn't happen). I recognize that other people might have made a different choice, and I'm completely okay with that FOR THEM, but for me, it was the right thing to do. For me, it was the only thing I could have felt good about.

Anyway, just my 2 cents on the whole dog thing.

Sorry, I didn't mean to rant. Something must have touched a nerve. (I'm an animal lover.)

He'll need a pic (I don't know how to get them off the thread to send him)- so email me a chick with bass pic you'd like him to use and I'll be sure he gets them for when he has some extra time (might take him awhile, I waited for months for ours...) LOL, when I first read that, it sounded like you were wondering how long I got with hubby for $40. (He's good, but not so good that I would pay him!)

Carol charges $40 for a 35-min session, but she was on with me for almost an hour - I was trying to be respectful of her time and get off the computer, but she kept saying "Oh, and one more thing...". Then she sent me an email with all the chords and stuff she wanted me to work on as well as some attachments with more info. She just really loves teaching, I think. It was so cool - I'm so excited to practice all the things she taught me. :) (She said not to practice more than an hour at a time or your brain freezes, that's the only reason I'm not practicing now!) :bassist::D

lmao....good way to make extra money. Pimpin' out the hubz...I do it all the time, but it's for much less fun stuff, like fixing things. Of course....if someone was willing to pa him for that, I might consider....:smug:

+1 Carol Kaye is the single most generous person with her knowledge that I know of. She is a great educator and always gives way more than what you pay for. Heck, she gives most of it away for free if you talk to her. She REALLY wants real music to come back, and she knows that will require real musicians to play it. And she wants to teach them. She can make a pretty darn good argument that the lack of music education and music appreciation is at the core of what's wrong with our society today.
She is also having a tough time financially right now, so if you can swing it, buy a lesson or some of her materials for sale...She's extremely low priced compared to what you get from other people, and like I said...you will get your money's worth plus some....
Also, all bass players...especially the chicks owe it to themselves to learn more about her, and hopefully get to know her personally as well.
She's one of the few legends still around.
