OK, now onto serious matters. We've got "boobage" and Hypno boobs...
HYPNO-BOOBS!:D

How is a guy like me supposed to keep up? Well, our band does play a song called Hypnotizing Boogie. It's pretty rocking though since it's originally by David Wilcox (The one from Canada who plays awesome Rockabilly) who is one of the best guitarists on the planet. We play this and I have video but it's still on my computer. I will post it. It's fun as hell to play even though the bass line is pretty basic.

Here's David doing the oringinal. Imagine him singing "Hypnotizing Boobie" if you want.

haha...I tried to write some alternate lyrics, but I guess I'm too sleep deprived. Usually sleep depravation makes for the best lyrics, but it's not workin' for me tonight.:p

There is a bridge to a song I wrote that is kinda hypnotic....it's funny because the three parts to the song are written (verse, chorus, bridge) but there really is no structure to it yet, so we just call changes whenever. When we get to the bridge we just kind of get suck in a loop on it and end up playing it like 20 times before someone calls a change.:p

We used to occasionally do that with some of the scraps of songs I hadn't finished. The Beatles did it and got A Day In The Life. We did it and got, well, crap mostly.

One thing we did it with had a bunch of lyrics I'd written just to use cute nonsense phrases I'd heard. Then it went on to fun ones I'd made up and decided were funny enough (to ME, at least) that they had to become lyrics. It was kind of Zappa for underachievers.

Another became something I was prouder of. My drummer would play a series of riffs to warm up. Always the same riffs. Always in the same order. So the rest of us started jamming around the shape of those riffs, with all the bizarre and sudden feel changes that that entails. Then one day I was in a nearly homicidal mood over having been heinously dumped by my girlfriend. I sort of vomited a nearly complete set of lyrics in one pass, set to that bizarre almost prog tune. We never recorded that one. But with a bit more tweaking, it could have been big.

Thank you thank you thank you......

Then.....the good karma (carma) ran out. Got back to John's and offloaded the lead guitar player's gear to his car. We're headed first to lunch, then to drop off the rest of the gear at the studio. We fasten the seatbelts. I plug in the iPod. Put the key in the ignition. Turn the key......

.....and......

......*POP!!!

Truck doesn't start. All the gauges bottom out. All the electrical is dead. First thought of the guys - alternator went out. I know better - the battery wasn't discharging while I was driving and that's usually the first sign of a bad alternator. Fuses are all good - starter blown. And when it went, it took the battery with it. (Towtruck driver thought so too)

So - call AAA. Then, we reload the gear from my truck to John's truck while we wait for the tow truck. Tow truck arrives 20 minutes later to take it over to the shop. They can't get to it until Monday. No worries, it's gotta be done. John drops me at the airport to rent a car and goes on to his evening plans. Fourteen rental car counters later, I discover there is only one rental car available in all of Orlando and it's going to the highest bidder. That bidder was NOT gonna be me.

Ended up calling my neighbor to come pick me up at the airport in exchange for gas, tolls, and a pizza and margarita dinner. Money well spent.

The car trouble sucks, but look at it this way. Every musician needs a good "great gig despite car problems" gig story. And for it to happen on a first gig, well, all the better! That will be a fun one to tell when you're world famous. :D

Hope it gets taken care of as painlessly as possible. :)

Okay - I haven't been able to figure out how to cut these back into smaller song-sized files, BUT, if you're patient enough to wait for the downloads.

Download first, then watch. They're too big to stream from the dropbox they're loaded in.

A little random number we use for the final soundcheck -

Soundcheck Blues (162MB)
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

The first part of the show (1.89GB)
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

The second part of the show (223MB)
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Enjoy!

Watching Soundcheck Blues now. You look great and are doing some nice tambourine work! :D I also think that's a really cool thing for inside a library to do.

Downloading the other two now. Jeez even at 2+ MB/sec these are taking a LONG time to download.

Thank you! That little soundcheck thing was a very spur of the moment. But it came together really nicely so I'm talking to John today about maybe sitting down to write lyrics for it. It could be good fun, I think.

And they're BIG files. Lots to download.

Got through about 1/2 of the first part, but need to get going. My son's high school is hosting a soccer tournament this weekend and he's got two games this afternoon.

Like what I heard so far. That was a great mix of material and I liked the arrangements.

Keep up the great work, Tat! :)

Thanks, Dave! Good luck to your son's team. Hope they win both of their games.

Tat, please help! I was only able to get one of these downloaded and can't find any where you sing on. Could you email me the links? For some reason, I can't get these off of here, but last time was able to do it just fine from my email. Sorry I'm such an idiot! I really want to hear you sing....

And funny story about a tambourine - my drummer one time couldn't drum because of surgery so we gave her a tambourine to keep time for us while practicing. She was so frustrated with not being able to drum, she hit the thing on her leg so hard that the next day she had HUGE bruises all along her hip and thigh. So ya gotta watch it with that tambourine, LOL. Make sure you don't get too enthusiastic with it!

PA, I'm editing the videos now to break them down and pushing them to unlisted YouTube links. I'll post the YouTube links as soon as they're loaded and live.

Sound Check Blues is up, but I don't sing on that one.
