Good to know about the Stringjoys! I like the tone of rounds, but I don't like how they feel on my hands. That's another reason why I switched back to the Rotosound 55 pressurewounds / half rounds. I still get that bright tone, but they're smoother than most rounds. But they're still not as smooth as the La Bella tapes I've been playing.I use Stringjoy nickel roundwounds on my 4003, great thing is the have custom sets where you can choose the exact gauge you want, which in case of Rick is very useful since they use the weird 45-55-75-105. I went exactly +5 up on each string with DGCF tuning. They sound exactly as the original strings which is what I wanted, but in D. Nothing floppy and they stay perfectly in tune. Great stings for a very reasonable price.
I also used the LaBella Gold and Copper tapes at 115, way to floppy and they sounded dull to me.
For tapes I now use Magma BE500NB at 53-73-93-113 black nylon tapes, excellent strings, sound amazing.
I use the light gauge La Bella White and Gold White tapes on my E Standard basses and the tension is perfect for me. But D Standard is different of course.
