D'Addario...Flex Steels?

Just saw the video review.
They sound great!
Will single strings be an option for the FlexSteels at some point?
I'm tuned down a step and need a 110.

I'm sure they will be. I'll try to find out something more definite at NAMM this week.

While tuning up, I had the G string tuned to D and D tuned to A and they actually were stable! Was pretty wild. I would try the .105 and see what you think.

Ahh you are really tempting me now!
I just might have to give the 105 a shot.

I have the EFX165 set on the bass now .045 .065 .085 .105 and it feels great fingerstyle with the .105 tuned to D. it feels like a good .125 B string tension. Controllable while not being too floppy. I don't know your playing style but it may be worth a go... There are some .105's I would not recommend for this, but this one is pretty solid.

The new D'Addario FlexSteels bass strings are now out in the wild, the newest addition to their bass string arsenal. The FlexSteels are a great string with huge tone! Strong fundamental with great punchy mids and brilliant highs that cut through. Playability is amazing with these, they are super flexible and very responsive.

Strung up one of the shop demo Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Basses. The electronics turned all the way up. Playing through an Aguilar Tone Hammer 500, Drive turned all the way down with the EQ flat. Same settings for all three types of strings in this video. Gauges used are the FlexSteel EFX165 set .045 .065 .085 .105 comparing to the ProSteel EPS165 .045 .065 .085 .105 and La Bella RX Stainless S4C .045 .065 .080 .105.

I'm pretty used to floppy strings, I've been using .045 .060. .085 .110 tuned down a step for years now. I play in a metal band so I do a lot of fast playing so I wouldn't mind a bit more tension on the strings. I have a Kahler trem on this bass so I'm curious how these strings will react to the trem.
Think I may give them a shot.

.
Interesting video Jason!

I like them very much.

How would you compare their feel (ie. flexibility or looseness) to Thomastik-Infeld JF344 flats?
Obviously one's a flat set and the other round, but I am curious about this aspect of them.
Are they as light to fret as TI flats?

Soundwise, I can hear an emphasis in the upper mids compared to that of the Pro Steels. But then again, maybe it's just me.

They are a little more rigid than the JF344's, but they oscillate similarly, if that is the right word to describe it... They are pretty light to fret, the action on that bass is not the lowest and the fast hammer on pull off stuff was much easier to do on those compared to the ProSteels in the same gauge. They have more presence than the ProSteels thats for sure, but it is an overall different tone.

I look forward to putting a 6-String set of these on my Ken Smith, I just wish there was a Tapered B but that is probably coming soon.

Is the outer wrap the same as Pro Steels?
Good question - I'd like to know this as well.

I was all set to order up a set of EXL170-6 Nickel Rounds for my fretless but these are intriguing. I'm OK with the flexibility - I liked the TI's I played - but even with a Dymondwood fingerboard I don't think I want a rough-textured string.

Is the Nickel Round B tapered? It doesn't look like it to me but I have a lot to learn... Either way I'm OK with that string - what would a tapered B bring to the party and when is 'soon' ?

I'll want to have a new set on and ready to go (and a spare set in the bag) when I head off to Bass Boot Camp at the end of February...

It's a little odd seeing you and hearing your voice. For so long you've been this mythical bass string sage that only existed on the internet through the written word.

Are you gonna be making videos for other strings?
