D'Addario...Flex Steels?

Hey Jason thanks for the pick demo. :) The comparisons are great and really make the FlexSteels sounds better than the other two.

So I usually get by OK with regular long ProSteels on my 35" scale Spectors. Do you think that would apply with these as well?

They feel pretty similar to the Pro-Steels on the surface. The the extra flexibility reduces the surface effect.

Yeah, it's odd seeing and hearing me too... There is a video for ProSteels and La Bella RX Stainless strings that will be added shortly as well.

bunkaroo - You are welcome! I am not really a pick player but I hope that gave you what a pick player needed to hear. These strings share the same 37" winding as the new length ProSteels so you should be fine.

Duckwater - hair stylist was out yesterday sorry :(

The ProSteels sounded so honky after hearing the FlexSteels.

If you really want to destroy my world you could demo them on a Squier P5 or a Sub Ray5 for me. It is bad enough my re-return to bass was on a fiver, but steels from D'Addario would be the end of it all...

Cool thanks again! Looking forward to trying them.

BTW are you going to be at NAMM? I will be out there this weekend - would be cool to meet you!

Good video, great slap :p maybe get someone else to do the picking :D
And for the first time in 15 years I actually like the sound of something D'Addario makes.
Thank you for the comparison at the end I thought the FlexSteels and RX Stainless sounded great the ProSteel :scowl:why do so many people use those things:scowl:
I don't suppose you would want to be awesome and use a 5-string for your demos to show us B-strings would ya?

Good question - I'd like to know this as well.
I was all set to order up a set of EXL170-6 Nickel Rounds for my fretless but these are intriguing. I'm OK with the flexibility - I liked the TI's I played - but even with a Dymondwood fingerboard I don't think I want a rough-textured string.

Is the Nickel Round B tapered? It doesn't look like it to me but I have a lot to learn... Either way I'm OK with that string - what would a tapered B bring to the party and when is 'soon' ?

I'll want to have a new set on and ready to go (and a spare set in the bag) when I head off to Bass Boot Camp at the end of February...

For what it's worth, I've used Rotosound steel strings on my Dymondwood equipped fretless bass and the board held up just fine. Didn't do much at all. Purchased a set of the Flexsteels and will be testing it out on my 6 string fretless which has an ebony board, and my 5 string fretless which has a dymondwood board.

Jason great demo I really do like em but they are a tad courser in texture to me

Yes I will be at NAMM but only Thursday and Friday. If you are there would definitely be cool to meet up!

Sigh... I only have 6-Strings or 4-Strings at the moment... Well a 5-String Mikro but that doesn't count as it is super short... I'll be trying out on my Ken Smith 6-String soon. Actually I do have some MTD Kingston basses, Maybe I can use one as a shop demo :P

Any thoughts on how these might compare to Lo Riders?

Lo Riders are more rigid, but I haven't played them back to back like this on the same instrument so it is going to be harder to compare tone wise. Will be putting Lo-Riders on this exact instrument in the near future.

Thanks, Jason! I'll probably try these out on my next string order, and wouldn't have even considered them if you hadn't taken the time to do this demo.

Glad it was helpful to you!

Jason - here's the question I need to ask: will it come in a 130 taperwound like the Prosteel single?

I'm really psyched as I've been using Prosteels exclusively for quite a while now!

From what I hear, singles are in the works. It may be a bit (like 3-4 months) but it is something that is in the works.

So until they are actually released I do not know what will actually be available. Any info I get I will post in this thread.

Oh well :-/ We will see what else is being released at NAMM on Thursday / Friday!

No dont get me wrong i do like em they sound very good me and especially with my style of play. I was just saying they seem a tad textured than prosteels . I think once i get used to them they maybe my string of choice. But lets see with some break in time. I will say i like daddarios continued progressions on new strings.

A 6-string would work just fine its the B-string that seems to be the "dud" in most sets.

Agreed, but they can vary so much from instrument to instrument it seems.

When I chose the Squier VMJ's for the shop demo basses (there are 8 of them exactly the same).

I haven't put many strings on my Smith that were duds. So we will see!
