I know what you mean OP. I was never a Fender guy.. then I joined talkbass. I'm glad they talked me into it though, my new P sounds phenomenal. And screw what other folks say.. my Fender was MIA, I was going to get an MIM Standard P before I saw mine sitting on the wall at GC.. all it took was playing it for 10 minute and I put a down payment down on it. There may be better out there.. but.. I wouldn't know it from experience.. and I'm loving my new Fender P, such a strong solid tone. Play the crap out it.

The MIM basses have the truss rod nut at the headstock. Not unusual for a MIM Fender.
I apologize OP if my comments were taken the wrong way as some tend to think.
I edited it.
Which is why i suggested putting some falts on it and play the hell out of it.

Nice bass. I've got a little MIM J the same color and it's sweet. Hope you enjoy it, I have a real love hate thing going with P basses. I play one occasionally and i just loved the tone, sound, simplicity so I buy it. Then I play it at a jam, rehearsal or job and the cordwood neck kills my old hand and I start to not like it so much, then it gets put to the back of the stack and eventually winds up gone. And I can't really blame it on being old, I've always favored slim necks and the older P had some serious logs for necks so it's pretty much always worked out the same way. I once bought a new MIM P special, played it that night on the job and it was a nice playing bass but was active and I've already got an active bass so I wound up taking it back. Oh well, rambling on again.
Anywho, hope you enjoy it. It sure looks nice.

No gig ever calls for a P, they are expected as the standard. Most other basses are tolerated.

of course, if you see a bass player dancing nervously aournd the stage with his knees together and an anquished look on his face, he needs a P.
That is where it is for a MIM P. My 2012 has it there.
Gonna have to agree with this. Still sounds like a P, just way more beastly.

As well you should. You should feel a combination of shame, inferiority, unaestheticness, a vague malaise, and general ennui because you don't have a Precision. When you finally get one, you will suddenly find that colors are brighter, women smell better, and everything tastes a little bit more like bacon.
