Damnation Audio Fan/Appreciation Thread

I've got a Yellow Spiral - haven't done a side-by-side in a while, but I recall that the MBD1 at lower gain settings with the Shift down can be somewhat close to the YS with the gain maxed (but MBD1 with the gain trim cranked can get way more brutal) and the Girth at max. Interestingly, I could never get the super distorted sound like this video ). While MBD-1 can go from light OD to crazy distortion and even fuzzish tones with the Depth maxed, the YS seems more like a light OD that also functions as a tasty boost. I've also tried it as a Preamp - and certain boosts can sound good slammed into it (Nunez Dual Range boost for example)

Thanks!

Did some more A/B'ing with these

I can get the 2 "so close", but my MBD-1 somehow maintains a character unachievable with the 2.

I hear more mids, more presence, and a dirt that's grittier, without being overly saturated.

Feeling I'd like to trade the 2 for an older 1.

agreed. It’s probably negligible live. But I’ll be damned if the 1 doesn’t feel like “home” to me.

Call a friend to come over, switch the cabling around and then blind test it where can't see anything. Do this 3 separate times...if your result is the same all 3 times sell the loser...otherwise flip a coin.
