Yes. Shift switch up for more mid-forward drive sound (or down for a touch of scoop/more bottom end). Then just roll the tone up past 1:00/2:00 and use the Depth + Clean knobs to dial in the desired amount of thump and fundamentals. The only complaints I've heard about the MBDs not being punchy or bright enough are from folks who failed to explore the tone knob.

It definitely isn't bright with my Thunderbird, but it's punchy and fat as hell. With all my other basses it covers the tone spectrum pretty evenly. It's not an overly bright pedal, but it's not really meant to be I don't think.

Even with basses that tend to be less bright, I find that the lower gain switch position with higher gain on the knob will get that brightness...

I would think the MBD2 would work well in that context. I'm using similar settings to what was suggested earlier, but I'm playing in a 60s-70s dad rock band with TI Flats, and it does what I want it to.

It's a pretty versatile pedal. I never thought it wasn't bright enough. At times I wish it had more mids, but that's just me. The thing plain works, one of my favorite qualities in gear.

No - the 20 dB switch - keeping it off/in the low position.

Ah! Same here. That switch never suited my tonal needs. I'm more of a lower gain person. I tend to use the Shift switch when I'm playing in a mix and keep it off when playing alone at home.

Any time you need more or less brightness/midrange/etc... from a pedal you can always turn those knobs up on your amp as well.

I am joining a new pop punk/skate punk band and I'm looking to build a simple but effective board for it.
Nothing crazy, just a Tuner, a drive of some sort and a DI (maybe a preamp with eq like a Aguilar Tone Hammer).

Setup is simple, I have a Fender P/J into a Mesa Subway D800+. The band is a power trio, guitarist/singer, drum and bass.

I'm looking for something with some presence, some treble but I don't want to go the SVT route. Seems to obvious to me and overheard. Is the MBD-2 can do the job here? Is there enough mids/treble in the little box of wonders?

I had the MBD-1 in the past but with another amp and bass and I used it in another band so I can't really trust my memories of it.

Well, it replaced my op-amp muff reissue in the fuzz/level 3 drive department. Full, meaty, plenty of low end. Pushed by my Palisades, it sounds unholy.

Never got it to jive in my setup. Still a killer pedal though. I always wanted to get it on board but it never happened.

I can't guarantee it's permanence. The fuzz slot is the one I've had the most trouble filling.

I've come to the conclusion that the solution is all the fuzzes.

I’m still happy with my Box of War. My issue now is mostly my second gain stage.
