I recall one TB'er not liking that, and Jeff was able to change it.
I also received mine today. I had about 10 minutes to play with it before heading out to band practice. I put it on my board before I left. Its staying there and will most likely never come off. I didn't do a whole lot of knob twiddling. I found a quick sound I liked and ran with it. You guys did an amazing job . It cuts through the mix like a hot knife and still retains its bass and fuzziness. I was very happy to find it didn't get buried in the mix like most.
I was using my D-Roc (passive) into my SVT4. I cant wait to stack it with some other pedals just for fun. Honestly I didn't need another pedal and only bought it to support the cause. I think its great that you guys are supporting our future musicians. I applaud you both. I hope there is more to come of the same. Thanks for a great pedal.

I thought I had one previously where I turned that off. Maybe that was another pedal. I'm getting old and have been thru a lot of pedals now.
It's not a major issue. Just convenience. I don't use it as always on.
The program on the microcontroller determines the bypass state on power-up. Its not a user-configurable feature so a new program would need to be flashed onto the pedal at Damnation.
Well the spite box is filth!!!! So much low end that i kinda spent evening tweaking it getting it to sit, sounds huge tho!!

I'm finding the Spite Box inspirational. (clarification: I run a resonant LPF, 5k-12k, always on, and it is the magic veil for dirt). At home I'm currently using a PJB session 77, which is a full range device. Without the LPF the Spite has sizzle above 10K that I'm glad to be rid of. Anyway, I love the simple, somewhat unique, and useful parameters.
There are no subtle or transparent settings in the Spite Box. As you bring up the Spite, as piercing as it may get, it retains it's definition. Even with Spite maxed, chords ring out and represent, (unlike my BEAD, which I adore, but gets muddled by most intervals). I was trying to articulate what felt different about the upper octave in the Spite, and I think it's best described as "guitar-like". Not that it sounds just like a guitar, but unlike other octave ups, that sound synthy, or just super splatty, it feels like a tight, crunchy, distorted guitar. But of course, you never lose the low end if you don't choose to. I'm enamored.
I can't leave without mentioning the Taffy that came with it. I can only assume it's a Baltimore delicacy, as it was amazing. My wife finally has a reason to be happy about a pedal purchase.

It's "salt"water taffy. Must just be a east coast thing.
I sometimes describe distortion this way when Im working on a design because it gets right to the heart of my usual design goal which is guitar distortion but for bass. Guitar players are generally distorting the full range of their instrument without sacrificing definition. This is a lot harder for bass players but I find myself almost never using a clean blend live and instead choosing to distort the full frequency range heavily and using EQ in the circuit to sculpt the resulting sound. Spite Box gives you all those guitar-like high end harmonics and then lets you crank big punchy low end on the output so you can get a really authoritative tone.
I’ve had my share of salt water taffy, some of it taste like glorified, sweet plastic and wax, and some tastes like creamy, succulent, foodgasm.
