Damnation Audio Fan/Appreciation Thread

Are there any curmudgeon finger style players on here? Really keen but I only play finger style and all I’ve heard so far are pick style… given how grindy my mbd1 can get finger style I don’t think I’d be disappointed but keen to try and find more reviews!

I think this video was posted somewhere around here before, but Mike demoed the Curmudgeon v1 using finger style. It might give you a good idea. The run-through starts around 0:55

I’ll try to record a demo today and see if I can upload it. It’s just as aggressive with a pick as it is with fingers, I was pleasantly surprised. I normally play pretty hard with my plucking hand to get more treble bite from distortion pedals, but I could lighten up a bit with the curmudgeon and it stayed grindy

EDIT: I’m playing around right now, it can do some surprisingly decent “saturated DI” type sounds like some of the overdriven Motown bass tones. Tone at 12 o clock and gain at 9 with depth off. High gain with depth on can saturate the front end of other things pretty heavily and make them sag.

Saw that but didn’t know how much the bloop was interfering with the raw sound demo… still sounded excellent :)
I haven't been able to get a recording setup ready today, but I will pose this: I don't think the Curmudgeon 2 has an incredible bass boost with the depth switch off. I used the bloop with it and then was a little more pleased about the clean low end in my rig rather than just the fully distorted curmudgeon

Compared to a tone bypassed big muff the Curmudgeon is in the same territory but less noisy and with slightly less sustain. I still need to try a boost into the curmudgeon. A muff into the curmudgeon was too saggy for me

Brought my curmudgeon to band practice today. I can see where the depth switch up has its uses but the depth switch down works better for my punk band, it stays tighter.
I was impressed at how much the natural tone of my bass came through while playing my aluminum neck w/ single coils.

I think it’s a killer distortion pedal, but i could use a tad more sustain with the depth switch down. I think someone mentioned this ages ago but it would be cool to have a middle setting on the depth switch to get more sustain from extra bass in the gain stage but not completely lose the treble attack of my notes with the amount of low end injection

I’m playing a show tomorrow with El Shirota, a noisy rock group from Mexico! Their bassist is going to back line my amp, not sure if he’s going to use my pedals though.

Had the curmudgeon at band practice. As soon as I kicked it on my drummer had a huge smile on his face. He said “that Sounds like weed eater” which is of course a great stoner band. It sat great in a mix. I feel it has a limited useful range as far as the knobs go, but when it sounds good it sounds really good. I wasnt a huge fan of it at home with my little practice combo but love it in a mix. This is why I always ask when people post reviews whether or not they’ve used it live or not. Bedroom
Player reviews for me don’t carry a lot of weight. It’s heavy, it’s a bit unruly, and it really kicks some ass when you dial it in. Love the up and down switch as it makes a huge difference. Pretty intuitive as well. I’m looking forward to putting it to good use in some songs.

New post on the Damnation Audio Instagram! Looks like the Bloop Dirt Fixer has got a final prototype ;)
Proof of Concept/Alpha Proto. Beta Proto is next and that should be the final version.

so…many…changes…

Please no more ideas I beg of you.

Do you mind sharing the controls you ended up with? If not, the mystery will eat me alive.

Edit: Nevermind! I see Depth, Filter, Wet, Level and BRY?

Played a show with the curmudgeon, bloop, and Broughton preamps tonight. It was one of the better shows I’ve ever played with this group. Curmudgeon sounds incredible live, it’s so crunchy and angry

I’ll post videos of my band once they’re uploaded, but be warned, we’re an amateurish punk band :roflmao:

I always feel like my amp needs to be louder, but trust me that in the room it was loud as hell :bassist:
Curmudgeon is on almost the entire time
