So who just got a spite box? How is it? I have one but I gotta wait a few weeks before I can shred with it.

I’ve had a spite box since march. I really like it and it took the place of my old stacked dirt combo. Originally I used a Curmudgeon 2 into a Super Fuzz clone, but the spite box goes a lot harder in the same territory since it was intended as an octave fuzz.
The bass boost is POWERFUL. I play straight into a power amp, it accurately reproduces the sub frequencies without getting farty

I only had a little time to mess around with it yesterday and won't get to try it with the band until next week, but initial impressions are good. It's aggressive as balls. The Spite(octave) sounds really good, but I'm having a hard time maintaining definition without it. I've run a passive P5 and an active Thumb through it so far. It does seem to play a little better with the passive bass, but nothing bad with the active. I've yet to find anything subtle about it, which if fine because that's not what I bought it for. I'm going to set the MBD pretty mild, with a slightly aggressive boost and try feeding the Spite Box into it. I may try and do some drum and bass recordings with it this weekend. If/when I do, I will post them here.

Can confirm on the boost. The thing goes from angry to earthmoving, gut loosening, need an 18" sub heavy loud very quickly. I likey.

FWIW Spite Box was not designed for subtlety. It is a sledgehammer meant for leveling buildings.

I prefer running the spite box last in line, but that’s all matter of subjectivity

House bass rig = Sansamp bass driver (preamp) and custom wedge loaded with an Eminence Kappa Pro and tweeter. Power amp is a Quest QA3004.

It all worked out very nicely. DI feed taken off my Spectradrive, then returned to me via the wedge. Sounded (and felt) massive, and that was before the MBD2 or D2 came into the picture. Drummer was happy, me was happy.

on the mbd3, is it possible to switch from the high and low gain sounds and having both at the same nominal level.
(by that I mean not having a huge boost when engaging the high gain channel)

Yes. When I kick in the Boost switch, my tone is essentially more distorted. No significant increase in volume.

i thank you for your help, but my wallet is gonna hate you.
I have to go from « low gain » to « high gain » lightning fast on the last 4 compositions with my band. I was going to go and use the boss ls2 for 2 fx loops, byput thats a crap load of cables.

Now to find one in Canada that wont come to 500 cad!!

Currently using the mbd2 as a high gain and tc spark as a low gain.
The mbd3 would be a “all in one box solution”.
But man are they expensive for us in Quebec.

That's exactly my thinking. I am currently building a small pedalboard around MBD3: tuner - MBD - compressor - HPF/DI

no need for second dirt pedal with the boost switch...

But man are they expensive for us in Quebec.

I know...but when you realize that MBD can replace several other pedals (crossover blender, booster, low gain dirt, high gain dirt) it eases the pain...

Fellow Quebecer here. It is expensive, but not 500$, I have one and love it. They are rare here though!

Isn’t that the normal price? It’s like $280 USD, which is about right for $250 plus tax. Even if the tax isn’t included in that price it would only be a 10% increase.

Brand new mbd2 / curmudgeon is almost 100 dollars cheaper though from same dealer so feels a bit blah still… maybe pedal prices are just too much for me now

Don't be too quick to dismiss the MBD-2 or the Curmudgeon. The 2 is still a beast and worth looking at imho.

Yeah I have my 1 and won’t sell it… and had the curmudgeon and sold it… I support damnation don’t worry it’s just me commenting more on price but it is what it is
