Damnation Audio Fan/Appreciation Thread

I'm really tempted... Here's my situation, I have a smallish pedal board and I can only budget space for one dirt box. Currently I have:
- Future Impact
- Helix HX
- Source Audio Aftershock (distortion)
- Cali76 CB (compressor)
- Broughton Messenger (eq)

The HX has a pretty good B7K model, which I use mostly as a cleanish preamp. The Aftershock also has a Darkglass type algorithm. I haven't had a change to delve into the Aftershock, but I wonder... It's very versatile obviously.

Has anyone compared the various Aftershock models to the MBD-1? For versatility, sound quality, feel, impact, etc...? If I swap the Aftershock out in favor of the MBD, what do I gain and lose?

I haven't used an aftershock for a long time, but before I got my MBD-1 I had a b3k as my main dirt tone. Thought I would never get rid of it but when it broke I got my MBD-1, 2 different solar systems. MBD has a similar top end sizzle but with more bottom end and more heft in the mids. 2 words that describe the MBD - Brutal and Clarity

I know that the word you used to describe the MDB-1 is clairity and that is why I like mine so much. So many pedals are a wall of sound with little definition. This pedal screams as loud as any I have used but always keeps the tone in tact.

ok Ok OK OKOKOKOKOKOKOKOK I ordered an MBD-1. I hope you're all proud of yourselves.

You’ll thank us later man. You know you’re dirt. I think you’ll be all about it when you get it and play it. Especially in a band context. It’s just right. Idk how Jeff did it, but he def nailed it.

Really... the MBD-1 has been the best dirt purchase I have made in my long career of dirt addiction.

Totally agree!! Of all the dirt boxes I’ve tried/had, the MBD is easily one if not my top fav.

Hard agree. MBD and Fuzzro Rat tail. Two best dirt pedals I’ve layed my hands upon.

They just nail it. I like that they don’t need 50 knobs to get the job done either.

Yeah the MBD-1 is good enough!
Oldie but a goodie —

White enclosure, with the “ox blood” knob (in black) works, too...:)

I still vividly recall the first time I kicked on my MBD-1... I’d been churning thru expensive dirt pedals, one by one...getting pretty discouraged. Took a chance on the MBD, and instantly knew it was a keeper!

Since then, I’ve found several dirt pedals (VMT, AO, AOm, Gasoline) that stack with it beautifully...but the MBD-1 is foundational for me.

I really want a white one with those knobs. Dang man that thing is so sexy. I so wish. I love mine. But I’d love it even more if it was white with those bangin knobs!
I have an extra set of those exact Hilbish knobs (5, to be exact.)
Had them on the v4B prototype for a hot minute before I sold it- I may part with them for considerably less than I paid for them if you’re interested.
Can’t really help with the white enclosure though lol

so educate me everyone: I get the Idea of stacking....I think lol, so this means putting other dirt's before the #mbd so they hit it's circuits harder?
yes, for more distortion, but also for the eq factor imparted as well. Also, getting two flavors of dirt but with the common thread of the one for more cohesion.

Or after. I put my MBD first in line. I feel everything sounds better with the MBD going into it rather than out out of it. It may be different for you. Like I stack my Blower Box or the DG X7 on the MBD. Either combo sounds glorious :D
