I love the Fender Stainless Flats (9050ML) I put on my DC. Smooth as glass, but I can still get some serious clank outta them.

I put a set of Fender Stainless rounds (7350ML) on my G&L only because they're $17/set at my local store, they sound good, but die very quick. I think I'm going to stick with flats on all of my basses. I love the tension on them.

I know everyone hates Fender strings, but I have a set of these on my '63 RI SS and they match really well with the bass. Nice and light... sound good with the hollow body.

I did exactly that when I got mine in 2010. Voided the warranty but never needed it. It's totally the move, too. The strap button by the neck is pretty much useless.

Damn. I wish I saw this a week ago... I just completed a Longhorn and I put the strap button on the heel.

Useless is an excellent description.

Any of you guys own both a Hodad 3 pickup bass and a Shorthorn 2 pickup bass?
These are both with longscale/34" necks, right?

Is either bass noticeably heavier than the other?
I'd expect the Shorthorn to be the lighter one but I thought I would ask.
Thanks

I have a Hodad 3 pickup baritone, 2 DC basses, a 56 U2, a 59 DC as well as a vintage Convertible. The Hodad is heaver because of the extra pickup. The DC Basses are 34". Other wise, all are constructed the same way and don't really weigh much differient.
At one time I saw a vintage Danelectro Jazz Bass copy and it had a solid body. The whole bass was heavier.

I have Hodad i'm selling and for fun borrowed a DC from a friend who was interested in a trade. Like others said I felt the weight was pretty much the same, if the the hodad only slighly heavier. My vintage Shorthorn with one pickup is heavier than both of them though.

I just gotta say.. The new Longhorns.. Long & Mcquade.. $600?!?!?!

As a long-time Dano fan/owner, I love Danos, everything about them. My has been my main bass (over Fenders, Stingrays, G&L, etc) for the past almost 6 years since I got her. I just find this price a bit excessive for what they are... I'm not saying they're not worth it, bad, etc, but I don't think I could pay that for a new Dano..

But man.. If it was a Longhorn Baritone, I'd gladly pay $600 easily for one! Especially if it was this one, with a rosewood bridge though;

There was a "Peanutize" feature on Facebook where you could take a figure and customize it . I did one and complained that I wished that I could have added fuzzier eyebrows , whiter hair , some wrinkles and possibly a little Dano Longhorn . A friend told me to " photoshop that bitch" ... so I did . I only added the little Longhorn .

So to the people that own a Jerry Jones and a Danelectro is the price difference for the Jerry jones what they go for today worth it? I have the cash and thinking of getting either a true Vintage longhorn or get a Jerry Jones.

I don't have a vintage Dano, so I can't quite answer your question. But I have a Jerry Jones Longhorn, a Chinese Dano Longhorn, and a Korean 56 bass.

The Jerry Jones is great, and totally worth the money I paid for it (almost $900 new).

The 56 is nearly as good as the Jerry Jones, and I only paid $175 for it, new. Bargain.

The Chinese Longhorn is not bad, not fantastic. But I only paid $125 for it, used, so it was still a bargain. If it were my only bass, I could still be happy.

I played a '60s Shorthorn once, and it was cool. I'd love to get one some day, since it's never been reissued.

Other than that one, I don't jones for the old Danos. Personally I'd spring for a Jerry Jones over a vintage Dano, for a similar price.

I think that answer is different for everybody. Kind of like the "Fender vs. Squier" threads. To me the cost is justified; I am biased as I build these myself, but even distancing myself from that I appreciate the feel and the build quality of the more expensive versions of these... I guess that "build quality" is an oxymoron when talking about vintage Danos, but you (I) can feel the difference in a vintage Dano vs a reissue. The originals were built to be inexpensive but the quality was there regardless...

That being said, I've owned and played Squiers as well as reissue Danos (I had an early Korean one that I loved. I also had a "Dead On" Longhorn that I couldn't get rid of fast enough). I no longer play them but I still see some that I really like. There nothing wrong with them at all, just a personal choice.

There are some great players out there that play reissues. Try both and see which you prefer.

I'm with mcgreivey on this one.
