Just curious ... is the Dano your main instrument ? Do you have "name" basses as back up instruments ?
Aw, I never saw this when it was fresh, so here's my stale answer ;)

I used my reissue Longhorn as my main and only bass for a little less than a year when I got it but I use a Precision 99% of the time now. I usually just use it these days with certain acts that lend themselves to that sound like Tex-Mex or certain types of country and rockabilly, or if my shoulder's really sore (now that I'm losing weight again, that's improving). But it's a very versatile bass that does a lot of different styles of music quite well. Not quite as heavy in the lows as my Precision, but heavy enough, and you can get some less twangy sounds out of them when you work the tone and volume controls. Even got a decent slap sound. Not quite a Marcus Miller zingy slap sound ;) but I liked it. But for me, a good P or PJ works the best overall, so I just stick with them, mostly the Precision at the moment, and I hate switching basses so I rarely bring a backup or a second bass for certain songs. Don't have time to be swapping around anyway...already have to swap between electric and upright.

Count me in!

No, that's an actual lefty. They are finally available for us. Last week, someone on LeftyBassist.com. posted that Adirondack Guitars had lefty Longhorns for sale. So, quick as a bunny, I ordered one. About $490, incl. case and shipping. Mine's a Copperburst, too (also available in black). Should arrive this week.:hyper:

I know you guys are more instrument-oriented, but do you know any place I can download manuals for some Dano pedals? Specifically the Black Paisley and Blue Paisley. I'm a dork, and like having all the paperwork for my stuff. Good bits of info in there. Thanks for anything you can give me!

My lefty Longhorn arrived today. Haven't plugged it in, since it was delivered to my workplace (the spider on my front porch refuses to sign for anything). Have to say, though, that the fit and finish is just about flawless :wideyed:; amazing, considering what it cost. But, it's Korean, like my '90s DC Pros; which I was kinda hoping for, to tell the truth. And, the case that Adirondack Guitars sent with it -very,very nice, too (a Kases KHE-FT1 guitar case, in case anybody's interested). Hopefully this will be a short night, with no overtime....:hyper:

Cool your jets, man, cool your jets. I just got home about 10 minutes ago (11:30 pm). I'm too much of a Luddite to have a phone with a camera in it (and we can't have them at work, anyway). Soon as I get the camera cranked up, be glad to post a pic or two. Sheesh! A guy barely gets in the door...

I have heard of people removing the lipstick pickup and rerouting for a standard j pickup. Needless to say... This is not a direct drop in. You'll need to cut the top and fabricate a new mounting system. It may get you sound you're looking for though.

Take a look at rfslick's post earlier in this thread. He did that on the neck pickup of his longhorn.
Having played that Long Horn for 50 years, then playing a new reissue through a Mesa Bass amp, together for comparison, the new reissue sounded more clear and punchy to me. If I had it to do again, I would never cut the top, I would just get whatever sound I wanted through the controls and amp.

Ok Dano club - member #21 here.

The time has come to replace the strings on my longhorn reissue. What are your favorite round wound nickels for the Dano? I play mostly classic rock and psycobilly on this bass but don't like zingy or overly aggressive strings.
