Danelectro Owners Club

I did exactly that when I got mine in 2010. Voided the warranty but never needed it. It's totally the move, too. The strap button by the neck is pretty much useless.
Double reply here....
You did it on a LONGHORN Jimmy (I was pretty sure I read that was the Dano you had)? As much as I recommend it on other models I was afraid to do it to the longhorn. Did you do it "conventionally" (ie sticking out towards the headstock) or on the back like on old SGs, etc.
Not questioning your answer or wisdom, just curious as (as I've said a million times now) I am definitely getting another longhorn and that would solve the one issue I had with mine.

Conventionally. The wood is solid in the horn, so no problem.

Here is my original Hodad.

My luthier is responsible for the design of this bass. He worked with Danelectro back when they decided to make instruments again. He reverse engineered all of the original guitars and basses for them and Danelectro asked him to design an original guitar for them and the Hodad was born.

It is the lightest bass I have ever played (especially when compared to the Gibson next to it). I have used this bass at a few of my rehearsals and really like the variations in tone I get with the 3 pickups.

Can I get a number, please?

@TBPlayerOC - I'd love to find a Hodad exactly like that one, looks friggin' sweeeeeet!

Also a question for ya regarding the tuning machines, are they the stock ones or after market? I've been trying to find a set like those for my DC, but I can't find anything to fit. I don't mind modding, but I'd rather not if I don't have to.

Thanks! I found this on eBay last year. According to my luthier there were only 1000 of each color made. These don't come around too often. All I ever see are the 2 pickup models.

Glad you noticed the tuners. My D String tuner broke and my luthier did not have the originals. He gave me these to install and told me he originally spec'd these out for Danelectro. These are Grover tuners and fit without any modding at all. Not sure of the part number but I can reach out to my luthier if needed. Hope this helps.

Yeah, that'd be awesome if you could find out the model number! :)

On the note of tuners, I used to own a DC (the Korean one) and the tuners were bad however with the one I have now I used Gotoh guitar tuners and just drilled out the posts to accommodate bass strings and they actually work really well.

Edit: actually they appear to be Schallers or knock offs anyways.
I was looking for a stock photo and the Schaller m6 seems to be a match.
(These came from my parts pile)

Hey guys, just picked up a '63 Silvertone 1444 at a local shop. Wondering if you guys have any recommendations for strings on vintage gear like this. I play mostly 60's type psychedelic garage stuff if that sways your opinions. Thanks a lot!

I'm using LaBella DTF 39-96 on my 09 Longhorn, and I've also used D'addario XL's 40-95. Liked both. I'd much rather have a Silvertone like yours, though ;) Really, though, any strings you like would probably sound really good on it.

I knew it was solid - it's just so narrow - but I guess I'll try it - it is light too to make up for the strain. And if it fails I'll write Evetts and tell them "Jimmy made me do it".
Also - I think these Danelectros we have in common underscore the importance of premium woods to good tone that we were discussing elsewhere. ;)
