Darkglass Microtubes 900 Class D Amp

Is it a real 900 watts or a hyped 900 watts.. Did they change to a new and more powerful power amp module?

Might even be the 900w module that Aguilar used in the TH500 ;)
Sorry. Couldn't resist.

Seems to be a few amps floating around in the 700/800/900 rating. Not sure what's under the hood; if it's the same/different for each. I'm sure Doug will chime in. He's pretty active and open about what's going on.

I have never been a fan of that TH amp.. I know many people have bowed to that thing though..
But that's besides the point.. The point is , is it a 700 watt amp that's being named 900 watts because it sounds as loud as what other people think 900 watts sounds like ? Or is it 900 watts.?. We will have to wait for Bass Gear Mag to do a true evaluation.

I have a Crown PSA 2 Poweramp ( don't use on gigs anymore, But i did for years) that is about 905 watts.. It was updated by the sound company Showco about 15 years ago.. There is NO commercial 900 watt bass amp that comes even close to what the 905 watts of a Crown PSA2 sounds like.
Somehow we have watered that down over the years

My point/joke was that the TH 500 was a 500w amp that supposedly used the same power module as the Genz Shuttle 9 rated at 900w, and possibly a few other amps of various ratings.

I'd put myself out there and say Douglas would never call it a 900 (and that hasn't actually been confirmed just alluded to) based on the TC Elec "it sounds that loud" logic. If it's called a 900, I'd bet it benched at 900 or more.

absolutely.. Bingo ... . It's something i've been leading to for many years. I've had arguments on here RE what you said... And we know what we know.. Ive confirmed with an outside source.

I'm pretty sure a lot of the class D bass heads are using the same ICEpower Amplifiers these days. These amps are a subsidiary of Bang & Olufsen and have a proven record of good power and reliability. They also come in different power ratings and thus, whichever amp they go with it should be more than adequate.

Thanks for the comments and questions. These week has been pretty hectic. Me and my chief of operations have spent 90% of our time driving to factories and making sure things are done just the way we need them.

It's looking good and I can't wait to release this and see what you guys think (and get some sleep).

Douglas, I can only imagine your internal fuel gauge must be running on fumes at this point. I can't remember the last time I've been this excited for an amp. I knew within the first 5 seconds at NAMM that it was going to be one big, bad mofo with bad intentions.
