Thanks, Bongo for the review. I'd really like to know more details about values on threshold, Attack, release… as well on where it cuts high freq.Review posted, finally! Sorry for the wait. Invalid Link Removed
I had to revise my earlier comment about "ruler flat frequency response"; the prototype tested flat like that, but the production version attenuates the highs just a bit. It still sounds awesome though, and has nice smooth action.

Most DG products has a cut on 5khz to simulate an amp/speaker.
Same results here: approx 3-4 dB down at the high end, starting at around 1K.According to the measurements I did the roll off starts about 1kHz. See post Darkglass Super Symmetry

Mostly I want people to learn how to find their own settings.Very good review @bongomania!! Have you ever considered posting sample settings of what you like on different compressors? Or is that not something that would translate well?
Hmm, the FEAs have the upper hand in versatility and range of control, as well as even lower noise.Bongo,
How do you feel the Super Symmetry stacks up against the recent FEA Labs compressors?
Bongo - your review was fantastic as always.
I was surprised to hear you describe it as "warm" with a "vintage sound".
Based on looks alone I thought it would be of the ultra transparent variety.
Sadly, your review makes me want one even more.............HA HA HA.
That said, I'm really enjoying the Smoothie.
In a perfect world I will end up with all of the following:
- Smoothie (check)
- Origin Effects Compact Bass (or Cali-76 TX)
- Darkglass Super Symmetry
- FEA DE-CL or Opti-FET
Compression has become (by far) my favorite tool/effect.
P.S. what type of compressor is the Super Symmetry?.........VCA, FET, OTA?
Thanks for confirming. Thanks for the kind words regarding the Symmetry! I used a VCA for this one.
Thanks for confirming.
Somehow I see a Super Symmetry in my future![]()
Any of the usual online suspects in the US have these yet? I've got an anniversary coming up...
