Dean Club!!!

I’m surprised the neck profile is different on the Lawhon?

Yeah dude, its definitely not your average narrow and thin Dean bass neck.

The Lawhon is on the right in the bottom pic.
You can easily see its wider and thicker.
The only other Dean with a thick neck that I have is the Demonator, it's actually pretty damn chunky, but still narrow like a Jazz.
The Lawhon measures at about 40 or 41mm at the nut (I think the specs say 1.65 inches) and the Eric Bass is around 37mm. My BC Richs are around 42mm like a Pbass so the Lawhon is a touch narrower than a P.

I wonder why the string tree is in a totally different place on each one? The one thing I will say about the Eric bass ome is the string tree appears to be way too close to the nut causing this crazy downward angle, I think the tree placement on the Lawhon is much better. The volute is in 2 totally different places too, the one on the Eric Bass is much lower and more substantial. I guess that's just down to construction differences in China and Korea. I will give the nod to Korea everyday on that one.

Whoa Nelly! I would have lost that bet! Wow!
I have 4 Hillsboro basses. One USA, Two Korea and one China and they're all the same neck profile.

This has to be something that Lawhon must have actually requested to make it that different.
Thanks for providing this info!
In the lower pic it looks like the Lawhon gets slimmer as you go up the neck towards the body. Or is that just from the camera angle? In other words does it go from a fat 'C' shape to say a flatter 'D' shape towards the 12th fret?

[edit] You got me thinking about this now. I'm going to have to double check my 4 Hillsboro's tonight! :woot:

I thought the same thing when I first saw them. Personally I would stick with Dean. I've had a Concert bass and a Kelly Bird before and they were not for me.
I would bet they were made at the same factory.
And agree I would also stick with the Dean even though Jackson is owned by Fender.

No problem
I was thinking the same thing as far as the profile most likely being the preference of Lawhon for his playing style. I actually like it quite a bit. I think it's the same profile all the way down the neck and the angle of the pic makes it look like it changes a bit.
Have you had any experience with Dean's having a super hot output like this one? I was messing with it yesterday and realized I have to set the volume below halfway for it to not start to distort, which is crazy!
The Lawhon also has that Fender type construction where the fretboard visibly extends up beyond the nut into the headstock. Just another difference that I noticed.

The pups on my Juggernaut and Paramount are hot. Others here have said the same. But no one but you has a Lawhon so I have to assume they’re that way too.

For those here on Dean Club!!! who like the Hillsboro there is currently a Hillsboro J in Silver on Music Go Round for a really great price.
I am not at all involved with this sale. Just passing along what I believe to be a great value on an active great playing sounding bass. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

If B-Mac let us see this classified, it means he already has four of them and can do without this one.

(I kid, sir.)
But you’re right!:D
I do have 4 different Hillsboro’s and can do without this, but that silver with the PG and Maple FB is sure purdy!:hyper:

Yeah, I was going back and forth with myself for the last week on whether or not to get this.
Pulled the trigger tonight!!!!
Even at 235 with their OUTRAGEOUS shipping price of 75 dollars it was still a good deal.
Especially because I dont think I've even seen one of these silver ones for sale since I've started obsessing over Dean basses.
That's my 3rd Hillsboro and 6th Dean in less than a year.
I need help.
It is pretty tho!!!!

It is a great looking combination. The trans blue version seems to be the most common. Looks to be a 2010 model (1st year of production) based on the rounded FB end. Glad someone here bought it. I have the trans black from same year. I’ve had good luck with MGR. I hope you do too!

Hello I'm Sigi from Germany,
I just bought my fourth Dean Bass and like to know what model it is. I can't find anything about it in internet without more Information's. As the seller tell, it is a shortscale Bass with neck-through neck and active 3-band eq. I hope, somebody could help me. Thanks and best regards, Sigi
