Dean Club!!!

Hi All! I had no internet for 50 (that's right, 50) days, so I couldn't share photos of the Dean Edge 4 I bought right before Christmas. It was local pickup only, so I borrowed a friend's hybrid, drove 500 miles to San Diego and picked it up (the price was so cheap it was worth it). It's in near mint condition, plays great, and came with flat wounds and a hard case.View attachment 4188866View attachment 4188867View attachment 4188868View attachment 4188869View attachment 4188870

Yours looks to be in great shape!
Gotta love the neck on these!
yours is 2006 from the Un Sung factory in Korea. Very nice elegant looking unlined fretless that is a great player and active. Been thinking about putting Barts in mine like my Jeff Berlin Czech basses.

50 days without internet?:woot:
How the blankety blank did you survive!

Here's a catalog page for you. The color shown is Trans Amber Burst which is what your’s and mine are, but the color in the catalog looks more yellow and orange.

They are great looking basses, aren't they? Your five looks great! Mine is in fantastic shape - one small flaw on the front which is barely noticeable. I do a lot of orchestra pit work (when there isn't a pandemic) and fretless comes up in a lot of shows and I needed one. After reading all of the Dean Club posts, I decided to look for a Dean fretless. I felt really lucky to find this one. Even figuring in the cost of the trip to San Diego it was still a steal for the price.

50 days was grueling, and at 51 I may have lost my blankety blank mind!

How much of a difference will the Barts make if you put them in?
They wouldn’t be any old Barts. They’d be as close to these as I could get. I have these on 3 of my Czech made Dean JB basses. They’re not for everyone. I’d also have to find the same capacitor.

JB likes to play the bridge pup more than the neck pup, so this may sound too ‘burpy’ for you. JB was with Dean for 14 years before going with Cort

So how do you like the neck?
I think they’re awesome. Might be too thin and narrow for some, but I just love them.

Great video. The multiple wood veneer is really striking. It was a little 'burpy',but sometimes you need that sound depending on the music.

I love the neck! It can matter tough shows. I have two Ibanezes and now two Deans, and they all have the thinner, narrower necks which I've found really comfortable even on longer shows (with the added advantage that they look really sleek). I got back to playing bass after a 15 year break almost six years ago, and having the faster neck really helped. When I started looking for a five string four years ago I tried a G&L, but the neck just wasn't comfortable to me (nice bass though!). My bass player buddy and I used to go to the chain that shall not be named to try out basses, and you find out really quickly that a good bass plays better (regardless of price), and that not all basses fit all hands. I lucked into discovering Dean basses when I got the red hand-me-down (for free!). I traded the old strings out, got the jack replaced (for $10), and it plays like a dream. It has a completely different tone, so it's great on edgier shows or when I need a more Ricky sound. I've been really impressed with the fit and finish on my Deans, and they're so easy to play. I'm a fan....

My avatar - the fish with an attitude! He's a grumpy grouper I photographed at the Monterey Bay Aquarium ages ago. I use him frequently for my business logo

Very nice!

Definite 5 out of 5 drooler!

Thanks so much for posting these pics!

Absolutely one of the most beautiful basses I've ever seen!

Thanks, my pleasure. And I do agree. Hindsight is a curse sometimes. At the time I wasn't as much of a collector as I am these days. I sold it because I needed a five string. Wish I had it today, though.
