Dean Club!!!

20220806_140246.jpg

My Custom Custom Zone got a little more Custom after it got in an accident that broke off the tip of the headstock and damaged the veneer.

Got some flatwounds (first time using them so not sure what I think yet) and adjusted the crap outta this thing. @B-Mac can you tell me what the knobs control? Obviously the top is volume and then is there a pickup panner or tone control? The button knob makes the bass buzz like crazy though so there may be more work to be done.

Usually I would say Volume/Volume/Tone, but the catalog states this is an active bass.
So, I would take the control plate off of the back and post a picture to see just what this bass has as there is no battery compartment on the back of the bass. The battery could be stored under the control plate with the control pots.

The noise is probably from a lose connection that needs re-soldering.

I’ve looked at all the connections and they seem ok but I could be mistaken. No battery there though.

The listing is on amazon but it says it's temporarily out of stock. I doubt it will ever get back in stock.
I like the gloss finish over the dull look of my 8 string.

Nothing. Just a bad angle but they aren’t touching or anything.

As you said, could be just the angle, but see my markup below.
I do not have this particular bass, but I do have a few Jeff Berlin signature models that have a similar passive 2 pup three control setup that I will look over and compare. Something looks off where the thicker white wire has been soldered.

The following members own/owned an Edge 1, more than likely a later model, but the wiring should be the same and perhaps one or some or all of them can help you out too.

Nope. No touchy. Here is a better angle.

The thicker white wire and solder work doesn't look original. Although I do not have this bass in particular I do have a Dean bass with 2 pups, V/V/T and is passive (Czech Jeff Berlin Signature) and the connections look like this.

It should be clean and simple like this.

Well I could always remove and re solder it all. Or take it somewhere and have a pro check it out haha.

Well I ended up installing CTS 250k pots but since the switchcraft jack was too short i reused the old jack. I have no sound so I’m not sure where I screwed up. Used guitar electronics wiring diagram but am too tired to look at it tonight.
Also added some copper shielding though not sure it helps. I ended up setting the pots in cardboard to get most of the wiring done first and then installed them.
What gets me is that the old hot wires from the pickups go to ground on their respective pot casings and then to the middle lug as seen in the last two pictures. I didn’t do that but wonder if I need to.

That is strange. The hot wire from the pickup should go to the middle leg, not to ground. The other wire from the pickup should go to ground - which I can't see from your photo.

The shielding looks good. It must connect to the ground as well or it won't do it's job. You should also run a wire from beneath (touching) the bridge to the cavity to ground.
