Dean Club!!!

Which? Swamp Ash (lighter) or Mahogany (darker) 4 or 5 string model?
4 string, P/J. Not sure on the body - painted black with graphics, there were no specs on the tag. Honestly, I think the graphics on it are going to limit the market on it. It would be awesome for someone in a metal band. It would be more eye candy in my house. If there is a serial number, can the specs be traced?

Didn't come as a P/J. Only as a single MM HB.

These are Sledgehammers (two in the middle).

Hey BMac
Just changed batteries....
I was wondering if the Bromberg B2 was 9 volt originally...
A previous owner put in some DiMarzio p-ups, maybe the pre amp too.( no brand marking on board) and the bass is now 18volt
But, I was thinking about the reason why one of the batteries is in the board cavity, not in its own battery cavity, or doubled up with the other battery!?
I just can't convince that a company would design that... Just not a very smart design...
So, I figured that it was part of a mod done by an amateur bass "tech"

Earlier, I had posted:
I have a Dean acoustic 4str bass. It's EAB. I've played some gigs with it and a few gigs with it as the main instrument. It seems to need a little help to achieve good volume but that's not a big deal and easily fixed. I like it very much.
Which?
They have made many. ...

Soundhole label says EAB for model. Serial number is 8 digits and begins with 'WS'; soundhole label says handmade in China; sticker on headstock rear says all the same except says made in PRC. It's 4 string; 34" scale; with 24 frets and a somewhat light-colored rosewood(?) fingerboard. It's currently wearing some kind of roundwounds and might even actually be the ones it came to me with if I haven't changed them. I forget what brand/size exactly I might have put on though I lately am running steel 50 - 105's on most of my basses. Neck looks to be 3 piece mahogany; the rear and sides appear to be mahogany; top might be maple. This was an inexpensive instrument, purchased for a project gig and has performed well.

Definitely an EAB model. Any numbers after ‘WS’. Just first two.

I don't have access to my catalog data as I am in the office today rather than working from home. I'm going to say that is a 2009 model and probably has the Volume and Tone sliders and no tuner and it is completely passive as it doesn't have a battery for any internal pre-amp.

I'll post a catalog page for you later this evening.

There's quite a few here that play the EAB or the EABC.

I own an EABC that has active electronics installed by a PO. Big bass. I put GHS Phosphor Bronze Pressure Wounds on mine for more volume when playing unplugged.

EAB & EABC players at Dean Club!!!

vid of EAB

can you guess the song from the bass line?

Thanks BMac...
I just can't get my head around the decision to go that route in design!!
This bass was only available one year and I believe was ‘rushed’ to market. The Razor NT basically took its place.
The BB2 was the only Dean that had an 18 volt system. It is Dean’s second three pickup (neck, bridge and piezo) bass.

The wiring under the back plate looks like a rats nest on mine too.

Took me forever how to figure out how to adjust the individual piezo’s.

I’m guessing when bought brand new there was an instruction sheet?

Very interesting...
No wonder BB left Dean for Carvin... I think there are some remarks from him as to that issue pages ago... There is a funky 7 knob B2 version out there, which he found interesting, and had nothing to do with...
I hope the exec that made these bad production decisions got 86'd... They really had a potential boon w/ BB B2 as part of their line... That piezo p up really adds a different dimension -- a percussive addition, a thud almost, to each note ...
I think the piezo is a bit rare on solid bodies... My Michael Kelly a/e has a Fishman piezo...
But, my guess is the boutique basses have this as an option...
Interedtingly, I don't think BB has a piezo on his Carvin/Kiesel sig model...

Are there any Dean brand marking on your board?

Well I was wrong and I was right... WRONG: Not a Sledgehammer. RIGHT: P/J. Introducing my new to me Dean Skull Crusher.

Plays nice, well balanced and feels not terribly heavy - between my Gretsch Junior Jet and my Squier Precision.

Don't see many of these special paint Edge basses. Edge 10A P/J 35" scale and Active.
Here's a page from the Dean 2010 NAMM catalog
DeanNewNAMM2010 11.jpg

The Edge 10A was an Active Bass and 35" scale with a slightly larger body than other Edge models. They came in P/J and double Soap Bar humbucker versions. One of the first Edge series basses to be made in China.
Edge 4 was also active, but 34" scale, 'normal' size Edge body, made in South Korea, 2 band preamp, but not the same as the 2 band preamp in the Edge 10A and controls placed in slightly different locations.

Very cool. I had no idea it was a 35". It honestly feels like less of a reach than my Squier. I'm looking forward to spending some quality time with it to figure out the controls. I've never had an active bass before.
