Dean Club!!!

For anyone looking to buy Dean or Luna Guitars instruments, now is the time to do so!

It sounds like part of this was that they had to clear out some old stock. Either buy court order, to raise funds to pay suit fees, and/or to make room for new products, or maybe even close out (part of) a warehouse. 🫤

Well, their lawse is our gain.

I just bought a Gran Sport double neck for $600!

I looked it up, in The Before Times, it was going for $1150. Adjusted for inflation, I recken they'd be going for $1450 now, new. Korea, though. USA model is 2-3x that price, minimum. lol

Welcome! :hyper:

There were two other Dean clubs a while ago that fizzled out.;)

This club started in 2008.

We are 264 members strong. Please post a pic of your favorite Dean Bass. No. 265 has your name on it!:bassist:

@2many has a few nice Razor NT basses.

Please peruse the pages of this thread as there is all kinds of info posted.

There is a Dean Discord that you can join through the Dean Facebook page and/or Dean Owners Club, but I have no idea how to invite you.

Three Razor Phantoms? Interesting. I'm guessing there's some kind of story there?

Also, check this wiki link for other clubs you might be interested in. Clubs & Special Interest Groups INDEX

Not a very interesting story unfortunately. I bought my original Razor new from a local music store and fell in love with it (they also had a natural color NT4 that I almost bought instead of the Phantom and swore I'd eventually own one)

Then later in life when I actually had the means to try and find an NT4 that I wanted, Phantom #2 randomly popped up for sale and I decided to purchase it since they are fairly rare and it was cheap. Phantom #3 was because it is in absolutely pristine condition (still has all the factory protective film on the plastic bits even).

The two NT4s I have were kind of the same story. I picked up the cherry one because it is in such good condition and then later found the natural and it marked the "end" of my 4-string Razor purchases

Okay, now I'm curious. Why so many? What's the difference between all of these?
... and all the non-Deans? lol
Not really much of a difference between the various Razors. The NTs are neck-thru which is nice but the modified Phantom still gets played the most. As to why so many? Because I'm a fool when it comes to purchases

The Deans make up a majority of the stable but the remaining basses are:
Squire Affinity P Bass with Gezer Butler signature EMGs
Ibanez SRFF805
Random Parts J-Bass that I built
Random Parts P-Bass that I built
Strandberg Boden Prog 5

It’ll be interesting to see if it shows up in the 2022 catalogue.

All sweet!

I’ve never seen the Hardtail model with a flame top. The catalog info that I have from 2008 only indicates classic black for both the 4-string and the 5-string. What does the back of the headstock indicate?

That is actually one of the special 2007 Dean Owners of America hardtails that they manufactured before the production model. It's #2 of 15 and was only sold to members of the DOA club back then (I picked it up off of ebay a few years ago)

It lives in a case full time but I'll grab some pictures of it later today if I have a moment

Here's a couple pictures from the ebay listing

That is special!!!!

You Betcha! Anytime is a good time for a Dean Bass to shine under the lights! Especially the trio of these Metallic Burst Edge Models.

You know I forgot to get back to this thread to say that I did take out the Edge 3's that night on my gig with a Mesa Boogie WD800 and two GK NEO 112's. They sounded great through that rig, of course. Those basses were definitely made for Rock/Metal IMHO. :bassist:

Awesome!
Glad you took them out in the wild!!!

Ah! I just realized that’s the same double neck guitar I was watching on Reverb!

I’ve bought a few things from this guy in Pittsburgh. He bought a lot of closeouts and discontinued items. None are sold with a Dean Warranty as they’re all considered used even though they are all brand new. This allows the seller to sell them for so low. You also cannot make a return.

Everything I’ve bought from this seller has been exactly as advertised and pictured and is well packaged.

My only problem with this seller is that he only lists the Dean items a little at a time which drives me crazy.

Good score on that double neck Gran Sport!

B-Mac,
Here’s a serial-number pic of my black & maple CZone.View attachment 7214427
Since this was the first year for the Black Custom Zone (2008) and some Epiphone guitars and Squier guitars from this same time period also have a ‘J’ prefix to the serial number I am going to say that this came out of Terada’s South Korean guitar factory as they made many OEM guitars. Terada’s main location is Japan, but that was for higher tier instruments than this, but they definitely had a South Korean factory and they definitely used a ‘J’ prefix in Serial Numbers.

That’s my best guess and makes the most sense.

Later Custom Zone basses definitely indicate MIC

Here's a better look at the DOA Hardtail. The rest is the same as the production Hardtail 5 so I didn't grab any other photos
That is really sweet! I love the combination of that binding and brushed gold hardware von the classic black. Or brushed something or other.

Supposed to get strings in tomorrow. Decided to try Ernie Ball group 2.5 flats. Already have one bass with LaBella LTFs, and another with Gibson flats. Have used LaBella DTFs and Dunlops in the past; thought I’d try something a little different on the CZone.
Measured string spacing the other day. At the saddles it’s 19.8mm. Surprised me.
