Dean Club!!!

Supposed to get strings in tomorrow. Decided to try Ernie Ball group 2.5 flats. Already have one bass with LaBella LTFs, and another with Gibson flats. Have used LaBella DTFs and Dunlops in the past; thought I’d try something a little different on the CZone.
Measured string spacing the other day. At the saddles it’s 19.8mm. Surprised me.
That’s a lot wider than an Edge.

It actually makes sense as the bent plate bridge is purposely Fender P base like and the pickups have the P Base size and shape and pole spacing.

Swapped out from the red neon strings. I don't know what I was thinking. Wife said they were horrible. Boss said they looked like licorice. Then all I could think of was that pull and peel licorice. Yeah, gone for some Black Beauties again. Everybody's got their favorites, and these are mine.

Just wondering if anyone here picked these up on Reverb?

This Rhapsody 8-String with made up finish description:

Finish described as 'Red Stain'.
This is actually satin natural with Bubinga top and Mahogany body.

finish described as 'Root Beer Gloss Burled Elm'. What a riot. Amazing how people make up stuff rather than look it up.
This is actually gloss natural with Bubinga top and Mahogany body.

Both appeared to be in great shape.

Figured out my twang issue I suppose. Went to upgrade my pickup to the EMG 40DCX and my nut fell off. Pickup sound nice and the pots were a huge upgrade over original. Only had to Dremel the pocket out about a mm more. The battery fits just fine. Most of all it looks much better compared to the exposed poles on the original pickup.

Definite upgrade! NICE!

Hey there everyone! I just picked this up a few months ago and I was wondering if anyone maybe knew anything about it? The only thing I know about it is that it’s a Dean Edge and that’s all haha. I’m still trying to figure out exactly what the controls do and and have no idea how old it is.

Dean Edge 5 I believe. The serial number should be on the headstock and you can google it. Took me a bit to find a site to lookup mine but they're out there. It'll give you where it was produced and the year. Very nice bass and welcome to the club! I'm thinking you got two volume and two tone knobs. You can tap on each pickup with a screwdriver (lightly) as you turn the knobs to figure out which controls which pickup. It seems I'm always wrong when I assume and I gotta figure it out the caveman way.

I tried looking up the serial no. but this one was made in Korea and google is telling me that it’s gonna be harder to figure out a year because of that.

As for the electronics, this bass is active and it seems to have a master volume and three other knobs that seem to adjust the on-board preamp. I’ve figured out that one of them is a blend pot for the two pickups but I still can’t quite figure out what the other two knobs do.

Thanks for the info!

I’ll post some info on it later.
Please post the first few letters/digits.

It is definitely an Edge Q5 and simply the 5 string version of the Edge Q4.

If it starts with an E or a W it was made at the World Music factory in South Korea. If it starts with US it was made at the Un Sung factory in South Korea.

Some of what you get from the net is wrong written by peeps who have no clue what they’re talking about.

S/N can be accurate for certain years. Generally, starting in 2007 and later the S/N are accurate.

Let me know if you want a club number too.

I own the fretless Edge 5 version of this and not the fretless Edge Q5 version. Elegant simplicity.

Thanks for posting.

EMG HZ pups

The Edge 5 doesn't have a quilt or flame top and does not have EMG HZ pups. The Edge 5 has DMT pups. So yours is a step up.

First letter is E and first four digits are 8148.

Thank you!

A club number would be awesome!
