Dean Club!!!

@B-Mac was kind enough to point me to this thread.

I've been gigging a Dean EABC for about eight years. For several years before that it was only my home practice bass. Then we formed a plugged in acoustic trio and the bass was put into full time action. It remained my main ax after we added drums two years ago. We're expanding things recently and going more electric for some songs so my newly acquired Epi Jack Casady Sig will see action along with the Dean.

A couple of pics.

The piezo pickup died a couple of years ago so I added a Kent Armstrong pickup to the sound hole cover, Man, did that ever improve the plugged in sound!

Wow. Did it tame down feedback? Dean actually at one time made an ABG with a piezo and an internal mic.

Thanks for stopping in. There’s quite a few Dean owners here who are into the Dean Acoustics

Yes, the sound hole cover eliminated the feedback that was often an issue from either a cab close behind me on small stages or a monitor in front of me on large stages.

The original piezo actually sounded ok but the gain was terribly low. I decided against an internal mic because I tend to hit my hand on the bass when I play and a mic would have picked up that noise. Although the Kent Armstrong pup is a humbucker made for six string guitars it works fine for bass and still retains the woody acoustic tone. GHS Brite Flats are great strings for this set up.

Dean acoustics are quite good basses. Especially for their low cost. The neck on mine is very comfortable to play (plus I like a long scale) and the bass overall is rugged. It's had a few mishaps over the ears and not suffered any damage at all.

Ooh me me! My first bass was a Dean, still have it 10+ years later! Unsure of what model, I think it's an edge 01. 24 frets, passive, EMG HZ pick ups. The one on the right of the colorful jazz bass.
Here is an example of someone selling the same bass as what you have who has no idea what they are selling. Buyer beware. Advertised as two years old when it is actually 20 years old and not a Quilt Maple Top as designated by the claimed "Q". DEAN Dean Q4 with EMGHZ PICKUPS 2016 See Thru Charcoal

Oh jeez, that's a bit pricey for this bass it seems! I mean, it's an awesome bass and I love the tone and the 2 octave neck, but 200$+ for a 20 year old bass that isn't a fender? Lol.

To me, $250 would be a good price if it included the OHSC and shipping, especially if everything works and the neck is straight and doesn't need a set up.

What bothers me is that REVERB doesn't screen the Ads for accuracy. If a seller doesn't really know then they should state that in the Ad. Can you imagine buying this and then finding out later (like here on TB) that what you thought was 2 years old is actually 20? I'd be pretty upset. Granted, when you're buying something used the buyer should do some research too, but still....

Speaking of set up, I really have to set mine up again. It sat for years without being played before I decided to start playing again, ended up buying a custom jazz bass and a ibanez mikro (my wife is short, wants to learn how to play). I'm going to try and set it up myself because the action is ridiculously high unfortunately.

The bridge on this is pretty easy for setting string height. Don't jump to the truss rod right away unless you really need to. If you don't have the right size allen wrench they are pretty easy to get at your local mom & pop hardware store.

I've got a couple sets of UAE and Metric allen wrenches. Gonna give it a go today. Will report back!

Is that actually a 'Playmate' version of a DEAN EABC?
